Son admitted to RPI, WPI, Villanova honors, UCONN honors. Any personal feedback/opinion/experience on how they compare (other than published rankings, etc.) for undergrad engineering in general and electrical engineering as a possibility would be much appreciated. Anyone faced/facing somewhat similar choices among them and what was decision?

My son look at both Villanova and UCONN engineering. I was with him through his search. I can speak HIGHLY of Villanova both as a school and for their engineering. Villanova does not have a formal one on one interview process; however, they school and engineering dept. went out of their way and gave my son a full day of outstanding attention. The professors welcomed him to sit in on classes and spent extra time with him to get to know him. He loved it. In the end Villanova was too deep for my pockets so he went to UCONN.

UCONN is a great school, much larger and will be increasing their incoming class size to 6300. Not sure when but the increase to 6300 is a fact, it is going to happen. The engineering is very good but the class size and TA make a rather LARGE different.

If I can digress I would have went a little deeper into the pocket!! I can’t say it enough UCONN is a really great school but the profiles are different.

My 2nd child is also on the search right now and UCONN is not on the top of the list. As much as that may hurt the pocket I learned the first time. Don’t get me wrong child 1 is very, very happy, loves it (3.1GPA); however, he also said he would have done much better at Villanova. Not sure if this helps.

Thank you for your helpful feedback!
