Son has been admitted to these 3 schools (wait listed at Boston College-his first choice, and offered a guaranteed transfer to Cornell AEM for sophomore year- not sure he will want to transfer if he is happy after his freshman year wherever he goes).
We are debating on which one he should attend, based not only on the academics (Villanova I guess would be the highest ranked) but also on weather, fun city, atmosphere at the school, sports etc. He is very much into sports and a big fan of the Miami teams (which attracts him to the U) but wants to go to the best school overall. Not only decide with his heart and feelings but also with his head.
Anyone that has attended these schools that can offer me some feedback?
Thanks

First of all, your son deserves some congratulations for receiving acceptances from such great schools. I think this is a decision that should really come down to wherever your son if comfortable. The difference in size for all three schools may be a huge factor for him. As a Babson student I can tell you that the education and opportunities to explore your interests while really developing a skill set that will ensure success after graduation are unparalleled. The small class sizes really help students to get to know their professors, this is incredibly useful when it comes to finding jobs (many professors still have fantastic connections in their industry) and when you’re looking for an advisor for a new club or an independent research project. Babson’s curriculum also focuses on team-work and integrative learning techniques which are some of the most important skills that employers look for in applicants.

On the other hand, depending on where you’re from the weather here at Babson can be a little rough. People who aren’t used to four distinct seasons will be dazzled by the changing of the leaves in the fall and may have a hard time adjusting to the cold weather in the winter. This past winter was quite intense, but the two before them were much milder.

Finally, although Babson has some really great sports teams (a number of which won conference championships this year) you won’t find the same kind of atmosphere around sporting events that you will at U Miami. We love our sports teams and enjoy supporting them at games but it’s impossible to compete with a school who’s sports games get more attendees than our school has students. I hope this helps! Good luck in the selection process.

Thanks WeRunBabson2012! Your post was very useful
