Virginia Commonwealth University or Virginia Tech for Engineering?

Okay, so before you say VT, read the whole post lol.

I have been going to a VA community college for the past year, and while it’s not too bad, I don’t like it all that much and I really want to transfer to a University. I applied to VCU for the fall semester and got accepted, but I didn’t apply to VT. So my options now are:

  1. Go to VCU for a year, then transfer to tech
  2. Go to VCU and get my bachelors in ME
  3. Stay at CC and transfer to Tech in the 2016 fall semester (VT doesn't accept spring students)

I should also say that I’m trying to major in Mechanical Engineering and I have a 3.8 GPA right now.

I also know a ton of people that go to VCU (including my sister), compared to Tech where I really don’t know anyone. While I’m pretty good at meeting new people, the transfer to VCU would be a lot easier because I know people that go there. Pretty much all of my friends went to VCU or CC after high school.

If I could go to VT next fall, I definitely would. Sucks that I didn’t apply :frowning:

No one?

If you can afford it now go to VCU. You’re already in. Both schools are ABET accredited so VCU will be fine.

Listen to Erin’s Dad. You have the benefit of already being admitted to an engineering program. There’s no guaranteed that VaTech will admit you (and give you decent financial aid). Admissions at VaTech are super competitive.

Tech has a guaranteed admissions program for their school of engineering. It doesn’t look like the requirements are too difficult so I could probably do that.

Staying at a community college would also put me in way less debt. Still not sure though, it’s a tough decision.

Thanks for the replies though!

Would you meet the transfer guaranteed criteria for classes, grades, and GPA?
