Virginia Tech Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

My understanding is that typically there are no RD spots to speak of at VT.

Lot of my sonā€™s friends with similar stats were waitlisted. Itā€™s been a crazy year for sure

Iā€™m really surprised at that! CMDA had a really high acceptance rate last year. My son got in with similar stats. Maybe the program is getting better known/more applicants?

Well, he has great options at ND and Ark. My son got rejected at ND - heā€™d give anything to have that option. Good luck wherever he goes!

Your daughter and my son have very similar stats (he had a 1410 SAT which is well above what Techs normal range is) and he was waitlisted too. Weird.

Omg, thatā€™s crazy. UMD and UVA are typically much harder to get into

and UMD is offering him a $10,000 per year merit scholarship.

Virginia Tech has been overcompensating for their estimation error that resulted in more than 1000 over-enrollments in 2019 by putting a large number of applicants on WL. In 2020, there were almost 11K WL of which they pulled around 4K admits. In 2021, about 3300 were eventually admitted from 15K that were waitlisted. Crazy way to treat prospective students in my opinion.

Yeah, uhm, do that one :joy:

And they lose many potential studentsā€¦mentally people move on. I know we areā€¦

Agreed. I am sure most people with other options will move on. Canā€™t imagine how it wouldnā€™t hurt the quality of their student body in the long run.

My son got in as an in state Biochemistry major! Found out he also got into Univ of South Carolina today as well OOS. Congrats to everyone!
