Virginia Tech Fall 2015 Transfer

Hi, all! It's almost time for all of us transfer students to start applying to different colleges and universities for the Fall 2015. This discussion is dedicated to all of us who are applying to Virginia Tech! :)

Hi! I’m also trying to apply to Virginia tech for fall 2015! I am currently a freshman at NVCC

I’m a freshman in the VCCS too! I’m at Thomas Nelson right now.

Have you been there for 2 years or 1? I’m trying to go to Tech after one year of community college. I hear we have a greater advantage over people who go to universities not sure if that is true though. But I want to get in so bad. I will be majoring in communications.

I’ve only been here for one semester. However, I’ve heard that there’s an equal opportunity. Also, I’m majoring in Political Science. Our majors are low competition though!

if you have a 24 credits from a CC, about how much would Virginia Tech consider high school grades?

When I talked to the admissions adviser, she said that they really do not look at high school grades. They only look to make sure you were a decent student and graduated, but other than that they don’t really take HS GPA, SAT, or ACT scores into consideration.

Thanks @ashleydawn. Also, what kind of GPA would you want to have to transfer into the Engineering school?

I am currently in my second year at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and will be graduating with my associates in the spring. After that, I plan on transferring to Tech’s multimedia journalism program. I’m extremely nervous about it. I visited the campus the other day and fell in love with it. I currently have a 3.1 GPA in college, which isn’t THAT impressive, which is what makes me nervous as hell that I wont get accepted.

@dtrans459‌ I have no idea, but I imagine it being extremely high due to how competitive it is.
@VThopeful9 have you looked into the guaranteed acceptance agreement? Since you’re getting your associates you could qualify

@ashleydawn I have looked into the guaranteed acceptance and it says that you have to have a 3.4 for that. But I did email somebody at the admissions department and they told me that “in most cases” if you have at least a 3.0 and an associates you will get it. So I wont be guaranteed, but I feel like I have a decent shot… as long as the rest of the people trying to transfer don’t have 3.9s and stuff.

I’ll be applying to the wildlife conservation program. I’m currently a student at TCC and an active duty military member. I have a 3.6 GPA but I’m a few credits short of the suggested transfer classes so I’m not sure what to expect.

Pros: lots of community service, letters of recommendation, 6 years active duty.
Cons: poor high school grades, no test scores, expelled from hs senior year.

Good luck to everyone!

@VThopeful94‌ I’m sure you’ll be alright! I have a 3.8 right now (Hopefully higher by the end of spring),
@Veteran4VT‌ thanks! good luck!

I wish someone would make a transfer Facebook page so it would be easier to talk

If you want to you can! I’d join!

Same^^

Hey everyone! Is there a place on the application for extracurricular activities?

I just put mine on the resume part!
Should we all share our stats through?
Here are mine:
Major: Political Science
Minor: Economics
Freshman at TNCC with a 3.8 so far
HS GPA: 3.75
I work two jobs and I’m about to start working on a political campaign.
If I go to VT as a sophomore next year I will be transferring in with at least 44 transferable credits (I took a lot of AP/IB)

@ashleydawn omg your stats are amazing! I think it’s impossible for you not to get in!
My stats aren’t that great:
Major: psychology
Sophomore at JSRCC with a 3.5
HS: 3.3
If I go to VT 68 credits will transfer by the end of the year

Yours are pretty good though! Are you getting your associates in the Spring?
