Virginia Tech shooting

I don't understand why they only delete the race thing for Asians, though. I mean, seriously...if it was a black, white or hispanic guy it would say "insert race male" like every other report on this sort of thing usually says. They did the same thing with those other two things I mentioned earlier...said the race of the shooter in the beginning and then totally dropped and erased all evidence of it.

I just think that's a little bit weird...and I've talked to other people and they've noticed that as well, so it's not just me.

I'm in DC, so pretty near everything, and every news report since I got home at 5 PM has said Asian...eyewitnesses said Asian, a guy who got shot said Asian. Not that it matters, but I'm pretty sure the ethinicity of the guy is set in stone.

It doesn't matter that he's of a certain race/ethnicity. It simply helps to identify who he is. If some guy was on the run, they wouldn't say 'some guy', they would say, a caucasian male with red hair, etc. People want to know everything, and this is just a fact.

"Steger (VT President) said administrators and police initially believed the first shooting was an isolated incident and did not see a need to close the university. He said they believed the gunman had fled the campus." MSNBC

Unbelievable.

I saw an interview on the news of a guy who got SHOT IN THE ARM in the classroom who said the shooter was about 6'0 tall and of ASIAN decent, for all you doubters.

i didn't read this entire thread, but here's what i think. this, like all big news will be analyzed, pigeon-holed and put in a thousand perspectives. the real issue is...what is anyone doing to PREVENT this ??? i saw someone on the news saying how good they felt about the Common App asking about discipline problems in high school? are they kidding?? this kid was probably the BEST behaved in his hs. that's the point! we're (high schools, etc.) all ignoring the fact that with the college craziness and pressure some kids WILL BREAK with their first real disappointments,ie, not being first in college, a broken relationship, etc. when will we learn that kids are not robots, not mental factories to push to the brink? my heart is with VT tonight.

yes, asian, but it could be anyone...Colunbine was very white.

*Columbine

hmm...

<a href="http://wanusmaximus.livejournal.com%5B/url%5D">http://wanusmaximus.livejournal.com</a></p>

looks suspicious...

Is any one else here just angry? Not just at the shooter, or the President, but just ANGRY that people like this exist. That someone could just take the lives of 33 people like that? I've been trying to process this weird, numb feeling I've had today, and it's seething anger. I want to throw up just thinking about this. I didn't expect to feel this enraged by this. Sympathize? Yes. Horrified? Yes. Sick to my stomach? Yep. But not seething anger and hatred.

Also, let's not turn this into a racial discussion. The guy who killed those people wasn't a human. He was a goddamn monster.

"hmm...

<a href="http://wanusmaximus.livejournal.com%5B/url%5D">http://wanusmaximus.livejournal.com</a></p>

looks suspicious..."

Or you can try again. But I saw that too, and thought it could be him, that kid looks like he's straight outta 24.

Police identified the classroom shooter as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui (pronounced Choh Suhng-whee) of South Korea. There was no indication Tuesday of a possible motive for the attacks.

Race has nothing to do with it. I hope this doesn't stir up prejudices. There are psychos in every race, color, background ...

The fact is that campus slowly responsed to this incident. campus polices are too busy catching students rioting after sport events. Also, this country has a messed up gun control law. it's not just one individual to blame if people don't do anything about the law, something like this will happen again.

<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/17/cho.profile/index.html?eref=rss_topstories%5B/url%5D">http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/17/cho.profile/index.html?eref=rss_topstories</a></p>

i bet this killer played too much counter strike or halo. i could imagine him going through the school halls gunning down passers-by.

i also believe that he was quite not good in those shooting games. why else would u be frustrated.

the TRUE great LORDS of cs demonstrate their superior cabilities in the REAL field of battle like iraq. but unfortunately, american soldiers are not good shooters and killers. it's like a looooooooong drawn-out war with huge casualties rather than a short mass killings that amount to little totaled casualties. ..i'm drifting away...

^ the more you post the less I believe you have a soul. :(

If anything, the killer, in addition to his personal problems, was probably heavily influenced by the other school shootings in the US (he was an impressionable teen during Columbine and the rash of school shootings which followed).

Australia went through a rash of mass shootings which culminated in the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996 which claimed 35 lives and 37 wounded.

After this shocking incident, the then newly-elected, conservative Australian PM, John Howard, pushed through tough firearms reform legislation.

While it is debateable whether the tough gun laws are the (sole/main) reason - since the new gun laws went into effect, the murder rate via firearms has dropped significantly in Australia.

sweetny, i have no idea what makes u to say that. the above post was just a theory. my posts are pretty strong, but it's just me. i have very very low emotional arousal rate and need to be often direct and imposing to get inculcate some interest in myself.

I get so aroused reading Sauron's posts...they're always fueled with sensitive keywords....excuses self

intersting choice of words, voldy...:)

In what way was asking the question: "Whats the Asian Demographic at VT" disrespectful??? Can someone please explain. Its preposterous!

the shooter doesn't look like a violent person. actually he looks like a softie.
