Virginia Tech Transfer Fall 2014

Hmm not sure why they didn’t ask you for midsemester grades. My guess is that they think you are right on track.

And, I am pretty sure that when you start VT or transfer to any college, your GPA starts from scratch.

I do not think your GPA transfers…Only the credits for any class with a C or higher.

GPA doesn’t transfer… I asked.

@Turkish93 Oh, didn’t know that. Shouldn’t matter anyway. If you had a high one, you can do it again. If it was low, then you get a fresh start.

…thought I had posted this a long time ago.

@Almrls You make a good point. But I know that part of the reason that I had good grades was both because CC classes are a little easier (e.g. the MTH 291 class at NVCC doesn’t cover things like Laplace transforms, which I’ve heard they do in universities; I’ve had to learn that material on my own) and because there’s just a lot more free-time to do work - there’s something to be said for only being in class three days a week!

I guess I’m just really nervous. CC has always felt like “easy-mode” so far; I’m freaked out that VT maybe made a bad call and I’m not really prepared to be a student there at all. I guess we’ll see, huh?

@Garloque Funny enough, we touched on the Laplace Transform in MTH 277, but didn’t test on it.

Think of it this way: these learning programs were made by humans, for humans. One needs not be a genius to do well. Anyone who puts in the effort can, and probably will, succeed. Admittedly, a greater challenge may require a greater effort, but they should still be possible to overcome.

After all, they’re not going to charge people big bucks and then set them up to fail, are they? That wouldn’t be good for business.

Anyway, that’s the philosophy I like to throw around. It really all comes down to time management. Don’t waste too much of your time, and you’ll be fine.

@almrls i’m currently taking my first math class (MTH173) so they asked for my midterm grades to see how I do in math

My guest page indicates that I have received a “Cyrus H McCormick Scholarship” of $1000 I really hope this is a good sign that I’ll get in …

Has anybody still not heard yet?? When are we supposed to find out! I’ve some people already know but my account doesn’t have any changes. I’m so nervous!

@transferr159 I don’t think they’re letting anybody else know until late april I’m so nervous too!!

@Tech123 Really, your first math? Are you going to take 174? What are you majoring in?

@Almrls‌ yeah i dont know why i waited till now to take it haha im planning to take 174 over the summer along with two other classes to complete my associates of science degree

Is anyone transferring from an out of state school into Tech, because if so, I have a question.

Ok say I started my freshman year at an out of state school (UMBC), thus paying out of state tuition for the first year. If I transferred back to an in-state school (in this case, Virginia tech), would I still have to pay out of state tuition, or would I be eligible for in-state tuition?

I’m transferring from an out of state school. As long as you or your parents live in Virginia, you should be eligible for in state tuition.

Has anyone seen any “hokie birds” lately?! I’m wondering if we’ll still get them with the last wave or if they won’t since we are last…
Also all these comments about requests of mid-term grades… they never asked for mine & I’m just taking math this semester, so I don’t know if I should be relieved orrrrr worried…

@Megs19 No chickens on my status page. I think at this point, whatever happens, happens. I for one am tired of worrying. Its not going to make an ounce of difference as to whether I am accepted or not. I’ve done all that was required of me, and worrying was not part of it. Nice try admissions office. You had me going for a while, but I’m not going to play along anymore.

@Almrls I wish I had your attitude haha. But unfortunately, stressing about this isn’t going to end until I know what happens. But you’re right about one thing, whatever happens, happens… We can’t really do anything about it I guess…

I thought since we all love VT so much that I’d post something about how today is the anniversary of the tragedy on campus. My heart goes out to everyone involved and hurt by it.
I love VT no matter what.

neVer forgeT

two more weeks guys!!
