These are two schools i'm considering right now. I really like JMU but i've never been to Virginia-Tech but I heard V-tech is excellent all-around school also. I'm not sure what i want to major right now. I am thinking about majoring political science but I'm not sure yet.

and does V-tech have better reputation than JMU?? some people told me they do.

Similar situation for me, it would be nice for anyone who goes to one of those schools to talk about why they choose to go to va tech or jmu and how they like it there.

I am a VA high school student, and I can say that while many people from my school attend VT, it does not have a great reputation. It's seen a lot as a big step down from UVA. JMU, however, has an excellent reputation for some reason. A lot of people go there too, and they love it.

It seems like both are kind of in the middle of nowhere, but JMU is close to DC.

VT is more recognized nationally, lots of ppl outside of VA/mid atlantic area dont really know much about JMU. as far as USNWR rankings(not sure personally how to view these) VT ranked #77 nationally and JMU is #2 masters university in the south.

i also live in VA and have been accepted at both of these and UMiami(fl). VT and JMU are both great schools and are getting better, however, JMU feels more like a small school even w/ 15,000 people. VT definately feels like a BIG school, 25,000 people.

they are both great schools, it just a personal preference thing. personally my decision is between JMU and UMiami because if i had to pick between VT and JMU, id pick JMU.

JMU does have a small school feel for a large school, but I think in future years that might change, which would be unfortunate, IMO. I don't think that it will be noticed by students entering next year, but the school seems to be buying other buildings in the area and expanding. I understand that they recently bought a hospital (or what was a hospital), I read that an engineering program will begin in 2008, and an old high school in Harrisonburg was purchased by JMU. I believe that one of my son's friends has a music class there. I was on campus last week and I can tell you that I saw construction. My son told me that the building that I saw going up will be a new library. I just hope that they keep their undergraduate student focus.

Just to add, one thing that bothers me is that JMU's oncampus housing is tough to get after freshman year. My son did get oncampus housing as next year, but some of his friends did not get it.

I have seen it. The library construction is going on in that area of campus...near Chesapeake, Potomac dorms and ISAT. It is just nothing like the older beautiful bluestone buildings. I think the modern ISAT building looks very nice too.
