Virginia tech vs. NYU poly vs. Stevens

hey everyone
So, i got into Virginia tech, NYU poly, and Stevens. But now I'm really confused about where to go. I'm going into computer engineering and i was just wondering which one would give me the best opportunity to go to a good grad school. It's going to cost about the same to go to any of these schools.

I'm really confused please help me.

Ohh and i was also thinking about doing a double major in computer engineering and mathematics.

anyone???
please help

think poly is a good choice for a number of reasons. First, many NY based companies are aware of this institute. Alumni are generally found at the career fair and they know what we are going through. It becomes an essential networking area.

Another thing I like about it is the fact that students are all aligned towards studying and someone is always aware of something relevant to his major. My friend told me about scholarships that were even posted on FastWeb and Scholarship.

There is no partying here. This is a very important factor for some people but unfortunately you will have to find a way to enjoy talking about discount courses during summers in your major.

nyu is spending money. They painted all the poly buildings and are investing more in research projects. At sophomore level, you can even apply for those research positions. I am a teaching assistant there as well.

You can transfer to Stern if you dont like engineering. Its probably easier to go from within the university system.

wow that’s really good since i was planning on doing research in college

but do you know what kind of grad schools poly students go to???

Poly is a wonderful school. I know the faculty is outstanding and lots of graduates doing great work in their fields. Ever since NYU acquired poly the stakes have gone even higher for Poly.

However if you got into Vtech, go there. engineering at Vtech is one of the most outstanding in the world esp. if you are headed for wireless communications in EE. One of the greatest wireless research groups in the world lies in Vtech.

Stevens: Not so exciting, and I know a teacher there who says they’ve been increasing class size stealthily. NYU: overpriced, chintzy with financial aid, and not particularly known for your field. DEFINITELY Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech is one of the best engineering schools in the US. It ranks in the top 15. Comparing it with Poly - it’s like you’re comparing Harvard v. Framingham State. Nothing wrong with Framingham State, but it’s no Harvard.

If you like Virginia Tech, go there. Its name has serious pull in engineering.

hh146, One of my son’s best friends is a 2nd year computer engineering student at VT. Very, very bright guy- tops in his high school class. Over Christmas he told us he is working harder than he ever imagined working, but is hanging tough. He is hopeful that all of the sleepless nights, projects and angst will be worth it in 2-3 years.

As stated earlier, VT has a really good reputation for this discipline and a really good networking system from its alums. Best of luck in your decision!

bump andddd did you make your decision?

It’s simple: Go to Virginia Tech!
