VISION weekend!

Hey yall,
On behalf of a current Rice student who's hosting prospective students for VISION, I just wanted to let you know how excited we all are for you to come. Many of my freshman friends who came to VISION last year said it was an amazing weekend, and I'm sure this one will be even better. A ton of planning has gone into the weekend so if you are at all unsure or nervous about coming, please don't be! We're looking forward to hosting you.

You will be matched with a host who underwent an application process to be able to host you. He or she would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about Rice, Houston, social culture here, etc. And I am always available as well (along with the other Rice students who frequent this board).

We look forward to meeting you!

I was wondering, will there be a meeting of the Rice Chorale that Vision Students can attend?

The Rice Chorale meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:30 PM. However, they have a concert coming up, so their rehearsal schedule might easily be different.

Thomas Jaber is the conductor and is usually very prompt with email. If you send him an email and explain your situation, I’ve sure he can give you further info =)

I thought the Vision Weekend participants might like seeing this article from today’s Rice Thresher. [Vision Weekend ready for prospies - News](http://media.www.ricethresher.org/media/storage/paper1290/news/2010/02/12/News/Vision.Weekend.Ready.For.Prospies-3870508.shtml)

Excerpt:
“These are rock star kids; we want to get these kids to Rice,” Villafranca said. “We spend several painstaking weeks to select about 300 kids to receive invitations.”

thanks for the article!

so are asians included?

^I don’t think so. They’re certainly not underrepresented at Rice.

And what in the world are they talking about when they say " These numbers are comparable to national demographics from the 2000 U.S. Census, except for African-Americans, who make up 12.8 percent of the total U.S. population." Asians do not make up 24% of the US population lol…

that’s a relief… I got something from vandy because apparently asians are “colored people” but I wasn’t sure about rice

lol yea, 24% seems a little high…

I believe they were just referring to the URMS
