So today I went to check my mailbox (with a lackluster attitude mind you) because i wasnt expecting anything else from Rice until maybe early February in hopes that i would get invited to visions weekend. But i opened my mailbox and sifted through the mail and found an envelope that said visions 2010 on it!! i freaked out, ran inside, slammed the door and ripped it open! haha, needless to say i found out i got invited to vision weekend! did anyone else here get invited?? I hear from numerous sources that getting invited to vision weekend is like getting a "likely letter"...a long as you dont screw up for the last semester or two? has anyone else heard this? oh, and by the way, im a RD applicant.

Congratulations xuladude!

What are the Vision Weekend dates?

Congrats, xuladede! That must be so exciting to hear back so early, and to be pretty much guaranteed a spot at such a great school :)

Oh, I hope ds gets something good in the mail today! Will go check soon!

I got the invitation in the mail today, too! I was already accepted ED though.

Yes, I’ve heard that it’s like getting a likely letter. If you receive an invitation to Vision weekend, then that bodes admission.

Edited to add: If you look at the blue sheet that tells you how to RSVP, it’ll tell you to go to this address: admit.rice.edu/vision.html

^^Okay, okay. I got a little carried away, and I need to take a few things back. I can’t say for sure that you’re admitted, but consider it a really good thing that you got an invitation.

Likewise, just because you don’t get a Vision Weekend invitation doesn’t mean that you won’t get a likely letter or be accepted.

im sooo excited! and the vision dates are the 14th-16th of february, and rsvp is by february 5th.

wow I had no idea that it was that serious but that just makes me all the more excited because I got my invitation to Vision Weekend today too! I guess I’ll see you there xuladude!

I got an invitation too! I am definitely going

Im just slightly confused because Vision is geared towards “ethnically diverse” students…but Im white

Anybody have an explanation why i received an invitation?

I was invited! But I’m not sure my parents will let me go…they’re really overprotective. Think it will look bad if I don’t go?

^^^ i know that they will not base any of their decisions on your attendance(or not) at Vision. Things happen which inhibits ppl from attending and they know that

If anything, from what i have heard, being offered a spot at Vision(if you are a RD applicant) is much like receiving a likely letter. They wouldn’t offer you are free trip to Rice if they didn’t believe that you were a strong applicant who has an amazing chance at acceptance

aufossil21: are you mixed with anything other than white? usually the overrepresented minorities get invited to owl days more so than URMs…but then again thats usually if youve already been officially accepted.

Does this mean that ORMs are more likely to get invited to Owl Days than URMs are?

Actually, I just remembered, it might be due to the fact that I also put down that I am part Native American(Im 1/8th) but I didn’t think they counted it statistically since they also asked if I had proof such as being under an official registrar (which I checked I did not have proof). This could be a possible explanation.

Well if you’re even a part Native American then you are a coveted uber-URM :)

ohsnapitskira: usually, because by the time Vision weekend is over, the majority of the URMs are weeded out for having been to visit Rice, as opposed to Owl Days. the pool for owl days invitees has more ORMs than URMs, but its quite possible that there could still be a fair amount of URMs at Owl Days…especially if they’ve arleady been officially admitted. If you’ve been invited to an Owl Day, its technically better than being invited to Vision because Owl Days are for already admitted applicants.

Ds didn’t get anything in today’s mail. Rice did pay for a visit for him in the fall. I’ll tell myself that’s why they may not bring him back out in the spring. sniff, sniff

i talked to a lady in admissions today because my friend didnt get a Vision weekend invite yet and we applied together, and she told me that invitations are still going out. Processing times are slow because they are so backed up, so keep hope alive if you haven’t gotten one yet!! =)
btw, if anyone that is a potential rice student of 2014 would like to colloborate and talk about future possibilities at rice, please find me on facebook! send me a message though, so that ill know why you’re adding me!. find me by plugging in my email…xuladude10@aol.com

If I’m not mistaken, all admitted students are invited for Owl Days. I certainly know people who attended both Vision Weekend and (what was then) Owl Weekend.

Oh my gosh, I’m so excited to meet y’all!!
