For those SCEA admitted students/parents who may be interested in the upcoming VISITAS in April: As you know the pamphlet issued in the acceptance folder had very little information about the TIME SCHEDULES other than the actual dates. Since I need to make flight reservations for my son, I spoke to a very helpful Harvard staff member today about VISITAS schedule. She informed me that the "official" program starts on Saturday, April 20 at 3PM and ends Monday, April 22 at around 3-5PM depending on how many classes your S/D wants to attend. She said it is very flexible...our S can arrive a little earlier on Saturday and leave anytime on Monday depending on his interests. Moreover, the official program schedule should come out later in the spring close to regular admission decisions.

Thanks, ohmmho, this is just the information we needed. Since our S is flying from a distance, we have been thinking about sending him on Friday evening. He has been to campus several times, so we’re not worried about him taking T, finding his way to check in, etc. Did you get any info about events on Friday evening or Saturday morning for early birds? If we send him on Saturday, he won’t arrive until 6 p.m. or so. Trying to decide which makes more sense.

You are welcome, EastGrad. You might want to consider having your S fly the “red-eye” late Friday night to arrive Saturday morning in Boston. Our S is planning to fly the “red-eye” since he’s kind of a night owl (like most teenagers) anyway.

Good idea–we will look into a red-eye, ohmmho.

Hey, ohmmho, heads up: S received email and registered for Visitas today. He’s excited. Getting more real every day.

Thanks EastGrad. S received VISITAS specifics today as well and signed up. He is also getting excited about VISITAS weekend and starting school next fall.

Can anyone elaborate on what this weekend consists of? Is it only for students, or do parents come, too? Also, how much of the travel costs do families have to cover? Thanks!

Hi Violin, it is for accepted students; most parents don’t come. Prospective students stay with current students, usually freshmen. I think Harvard covers transportation for some students, maybe some who receive full financial aid packages, but many students cover their own transportation costs. If you were accepted EA, you should have received an email with registration info today. If you received a likely letter, you probably won’t get the info until acceptances are emailed on March 28th.

Thanks, EastGrad, I was just curious. I received a likely letter, so I will probably find out in about a month.
