hi! i am visiting unc on saturday but i am not taking a tour. is there anywhere specific that i should visit? i only have about 45 minutes there bc i am taking a tour at another school nearby (duke) and have to catch a plane that day, so i was wondering what are the most worthwhile places to go on campus?

what is purpose of your visit - as a tourist you can follow the top destination web page - [Top Destinations | The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill](http://www.unc.edu/visitors/top-destinations/index.htm) but if you are visiting as a prospective student then you want to see the pit area, student union building and surrounding area.

im visiting as a prospective student. is there a self guided tour map available anywhere either online or on campus?

I don’t know about a self-guided tour map, but I know that the prettiest parts of the campus are hard to see from the road. You might want to park the car on Franklin Street and walk the length of campus (through the quad), past the Pit & bookstore and then further down past more dorms to Kenan Stadium. Or since it’s summer, maybe park down near the football stadium and use that as your base to come back to. You’ll be rushing in 45 minutes, but definitely get out go the car to see the best parts. You can check out a campus map on line and try to organize your route before you get there. Duke is no more than 20-30 minutes down the road :)

Link to visitor guide which has a self guided tour of UNC with map

http://www.unc.edu/ccm/groups/public/@edu/documents/content/unc-ch_visitors_guide.pdf

Also you can park the car on the lot next to the student store. It is free after 5PM on weekdays and all weekends. There are also other free parking areas around the campus. Most of parking on Franklin is metered.

Ok thank you so much!

Old Well, Old East, Dean Dome, Bell Tower, the Pit, Davis Library, Undergraduate Library, Wilson Library, Silent Sam, Person Hall, Student Union, Campus Bookstore, Lenoir, Morehead Planetarium, Polk Place, McCorkle Place, South Campus, Basketball Museum, Kenan Stadium, Cemetery, the Fountain, Graham Memorial, the Arboretum (not at night though), and Franklin Street! Am I missing anything?

oh wow that’s a lot of places! i will try to see them all!

UNC’s campus 729 acres. Some of the points of interest mentioned above are a 20 min walk between them. Honestly, 45 mins is simply not enough time to see a quarter of those. Is there something in particular that is important to you? Interests? Athletics? Particular major?

Mainly the libraries, student unions and a few academic buildings, im just going to get a feel for the campus, and if i get in then i will do an actual tour or see the campus at the accepted students days

Then focus on north campus (like the self guided tour above). The pit area covers most of what you mention. Most first years live on south campus, so, maybe a drive through south campus to see the high rise dorms on the way out. Things like the Dean Dome, basketball museum (very cool), Kenan-Flagler business school are all on south campus, but, unfortunately you really won’t have enough time. Keep in mind that it is the summer, so, it is kind of quiet on campus. When everyone is here, it has a completely different feel and vibe. Have fun!
