We’re trying to set up a visit to UCF to correspond to something else we’ll be in town for, but all the official tour slots are full already. I want D19 to sit in on a class or two anyway. Anyone know if she can just email the teacher and ask for permission? Any downsides to this?
I think it would depend on the size of the class…she won’t be noticed in a class of 200 but an honors class of 15 might need permission.
Call the undergrad admissions and if you don’t get the answer you like, contact the college and department of the class.
Also tell admissions that you will be in town only for specific dates and they might squeeze you in a tour.
I have found that merely asking for something will get you what you need.
Good luck!
@Reebtoor - did you try to arrange anything through Luke - he handles the NMF programs? S19 emailed him directly and let him know when were in town and Luke is now arranging a day long tour for S19 based on his desired major, etc. I would go that route. Scroll down the post in the link below and you will see his contact info.

When are you visiting? We will be in town touring on Tuesday, November 6.
ETA - not sure if we are allowed to post links; if not, admin please delete
@ufmomfriend They are smaller classes. I think the biggest is 35 (math, honors). The others are higher level foreign language classes with 20 or less. So, you think go top-down (admissions then department) vs starting at the professor level?
@mountainmomof3 She’s been in contact with Luke already. He said he couldn’t help her out on those dates. (It happens to be the same week as the NMSF Director’s Forum.) She doesn’t care as much about the official tour as we will do just fine wandering around on our own.
Quality of professor’s teaching, interaction between students and teachers in smaller format classes, and the content level cannot be judged from talking to a department head or from taking an official tour. She’s found she can tell a lot from a small class (interaction) and people watching around campuses.
Thanks for responding!
Ok- in that case, I would reach out to the actual department of interest to see if she can set something up that way. I don’t see any downside to expressing that level of interest.
I didn’t realize she was nmf.
In that case, I would contact Burnett honor college…because she will be admitted there pretty sure. Again, tell thrm your dates and i wouldn’t be surprised if you can get an escort…i would be very disappointed if they don’t accommodate you. They should find you a student in her desired field of study to tour her. Let them know perhaps which classes she would like to audit and see what they say.
Some instructors won’t want the intrusion, some won’t care at all.
If she thinks she will want to live in the dorms, towers 3 is for nmf and honors. Call them and they should give you a tour. Some places, like the dorms, require an ID to get in so you will have to get someone to get you in.
Ucf is a public university, so no one really can tell you not to tour yourself, other than restricted places …you know what I mean. You will need to find a place to park and then go explore!!!
Call Burnett tomorrow and ask. Let us know how they treat you please.
What is her desired field???
