Anyone planning to or has a student at OCU in the MT program? Would like to visit the campus, best place to stay, eat, etc. Any input would be appreciated!

djexpress, we were there for my D’s audition, and we stayed at the Colcord Hotel. It was very nice, had a good restaurant, and was walking distance to Bricktown, a walkable area full of restaurants and shops. We also ate at this FABULOUS restaurant (recommended to us by a local) called Cheevers. It was so good…in fact, after 14 auditions, my D said it was her favorite restaurant that we ate at! Definitely worth a visit.

Not sure where you are from, but the only thing that gave us pause was the sign outside the restaurant of our very nice hotel: “No Weapons Inside, Please.” Ummmm… I would hope not. LOL. We’re from the northeast, so that was a little foreign to us.

BTW, the campus is very, very pretty. We were there on a gray, cold day, and it was still very pretty! Nice theater facilities, too. The area immediately surrounding the campus seemed a little depressed, but the campus itself was so nice. Have a good visit! OCU is a great program.

Thank you so much for the information, monkey13. How far were you away from OCU? Did you need a rental car, cab. etc.?

Thanks again for the info. Did your D decide on a school yet?

The hotel has a shuttle that takes you places for free if they are available. They were often busy, though, so we used cabs. (I HATE to fly, so my doctor prescribes medicine to make me less anxious, and then I am in no condition to rent a car when we land, so…we use cabs. ) It was just a mile or 2 from campus. Cabs were pretty easy…everyone there is so friendly and the cabbies all give you cards and you call them and they come get you.

My D has not decided yet…we are still waiting to hear from several schools. She LOVES OCU’s program. Just adores it. But she is not really an Oklahoma type of girl, and it scared her a little. I think we are going to send her back for a couple of days so she can sit in on classes, hang out with the kids, and get more of a feel for the place. The campus is so nice, and the kids were phenomenally friendly, but we are from the northeast and my D is very liberal and not religious AT ALL and she felt very, very different than most of the kids there.

Hmmm…your daughter sounds like mine. We are still waiting on other schools as well and most, if not all, are in the northeast! LOL! It is the friendliness of everyone that she has met in connection with that school that makes her like it so much. I feel a campus visit is imperative because she may feel the same as your daughter push comes to shove. We plan to have her sit in on classes, etc.

Last year my D and I stayed at The Comfort Inn & Suites East in Midwest City. It wasn’t right near the school, but the drive wasn’t very long. It was clean though and got better reviews than most hotels in the area on Trip Advisor and well, I freak on bed bugs! It was $154 for two nights, not bad.

The best thing was the rental car, two days of Nissan Versa for a total of $32.70!

We visited the memorial while there and had dinner at the IHOP in Bricktown. D got in to the BFA Acting program with big scholarship money, but realized the school was far too small for her and seemed to her just like an offshoot of her PA HS, so she moved on. She has been happy with a small program within a larger campus.
