visiting tomorow

hey guys, i'm visiting NU tomorow. any sights i need to see? any tips or suggestions? thanks guys

There is a rock in front of Kresge Hall that says "On this site in 1897, nothing happened". See that.

I don't think it really matters what you see outside.... the campus doesn't look like that 85% of the time anyway.

I was there two days ago. And I have to say the lakefront is pretty stunning.

Not sure what your interests are, but if I were visiting for a day I would at least check out the lakefront, Deering Library, Norris Center, University Hall, and the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion.

kk19131, what does the campus look like now vs. what it looks like 85% of the time?

visit Noodles N Company- the shiznit

explore Evanston as well is what I mean.

right now there is so much construction going on ... they do it all over the summer, so all that will be gone in a month.

but i think kk was referring to the weather :D

"kk19131, what does the campus look like now vs. what it looks like 85% of the time?"

How is the campus different now? Well, there's tons of construction, few people walking around, and.. well... leaves on the trees! We start school in middle/late September, so by the time we get into the swing of things, the trees are bare, the grass is frozen over and the campus is really a 'different' looking place - not to mention that the weather is nowhere near the 90 degrees it is today! :)

The school tries to maximize the number of tours it gives during Summer and Spring, and tries to minimize the number it gives during Fall and Winter - especially Winter. This is, of course, mostly because of the weather, but also partly because the campus just looks better at this time of year. All I'm saying is when you're walking around in shorts looking at the flowers and trees and such, take that with a grain of salt, because from like November to April, that is NOT the Northwestern you will come to know.

"but i think kk was referring to the weather"

For the most part, yep. My friends and I joke about how quickly the Sun seems to leave Evanston after we return to school - like, not only does Evanston hate us, but the Sun's against us too....

Not to go off topic, but the City of Evanston’s hatred of NU has always irked me. Many of the local residents love to complain about the university, yet they don’t seem to mind taking advantage of all the amenities and cultural offerings that come with living next to a college campus. If the tax issue bothers them so much, why don’t they just move to another North Shore suburb?

Keeping in the spirit of straying from the OP's question, how much does a cab ride from O'Hare to NU cost? I can't find a consistent answer online.

^Probably around $30 - $40

$35 dollars is the going rate. Another aside: I called a cab to go back, and they sent a stretch limo. True story.

lmao, which cab company was that?

I don't actually know, the info desk in Norris called for us.

I am not sure if too many people know (or maybe they are just too haughty to take it), but the Pace Bus (#250) goes between O'Hare and the Davis CTA stop. It's only $1.50 and takes less than an hour (unless you get stuck in horrible traffic). I'd really only take a taxi if you are in a hurry or have a TON of luggage.

How is the Joy Yee's in Evanston?

It's still there? Many people like it and I can see why. But I came from Hong Kong and I am picky about Chinese food (actually just about any food); it's "ok" to me.

Joy Yee’s is ok, Cozy Noodles and Mandarin House are better

While Joy Yee's is overpriced, I think it is worlds better than Cozy Noodle...
