Any suggestions are appreciated. I found availability about 30 minutes away from campus at the Inn at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, for about $120 (Fri and Sat night) this weekend. The problem is the rooms are with 2 double beds and we need 2 queens. Anyone know of a place in the same price range with 2 queen beds that isn't further away??

Be aware that the Turning Stone Casino is in fact - a casino. alot of 21 and over rooms etc. but it is also on Indian Land and is dry. a BYOB casino - you can bring it but not buy it.
The Colgate Inn is a beautiful looking place right in the town of Hamilton. Never stayed there but have heard amazing things. May be pricey, dont know.
Where are you coming from? Heading East on 90 I suppose?

Wendt University Inn or Colgate Inn should be okay.

Colgate Inn & Wendt Univ. Inn are both sold out and are pricier than the Inn at the Casino (which is not at the same location as the casino iteself). We’re not planning to spend any time at the hotel but just need a place to sleep. Anyone have any experience at the Holiday Inns in Northgate or Utica? I know they are probably even further away.

How do they compare to the Inn at the Casino?

anyone stay there? experience?

Have stayed at the Hampton Inn Utica several times. It’s still about 40 min from Colgate, but so is everything, it seems.

After a rough start just after they opened about 4 yrs ago, they’ve gotten their act together and it’s a good place to stay. Nice free snacks late afternoon/early evening.

Just off the NY Thruway.

There is a Super 8 in Oneida which is inexpensive. The Vernon Downs Hotel is very nice.

We found the Super 8 in Utica to be a little bit sketchy (also inexpensive)

I was on campus recently and saw that the Wendt University Inn broke ground on an extension that will add 40 rooms. So in a couple of months this motel just a couple of miles away will be able to accommodate early bookers.

There is the Craftsman Inn in Fayetteville, NY which might be a 40 minute drive or The Brewster Inn in Cazenovia, NY which is closer. Brewster’s # is 655-9232. Don’t know the Craftsman’s off the top of my head. These are both closer than Carrier Circle.

There a few hotels at the Carrier Cr. exit too. That might be easier as it’s on and off the Thruway. Embassy Suites, Marriot Residence Inn and a few more of them. Good luck.

White Eagle center out on Lake Moraine. The cottages are very plain (there are pictures on the White Eagle website that are accurate) but they are clean. We stayed here once. It’s just a couple of miles from campus. Personally I would rather stay at White Eagle than drive back and forth to Syracuse/Utica.

I stayed at White Eagle last summer when moving my student athlete in to her Colgate dorm. It was great.

thanks everyone. most of those listed were either sold out or didn’t have rooms available with 2 queen beds. We decided on the Hampton Inn despite the longer drive.

There is a perfectly nice motel/hotel in Utica which I’ve stayed in which may be a Ramada Inn or a Sheraton. I just don’t recall, but it is the top ranked hotel in that not very wonderful city. You might check on TripAdvisor dot com. There’s also a Hotel Utica which I’d suggest you stay away from.

Utica is a good 30-40 minute drive to Hamilton, but I kind of like the drive through rolling farmland as long as I don’t have to do it too many times. Syracuse has more hotels and motels.

This is rural and small town America, so expect less of the urban amenities and some marginal places, as well, to be avoided. The Colgate Inn has just been extensively remodeled, but it tends to fill up quickly. Hamilton really needs a good hotel or large motel of top quality, but as a small town it probably can’t support one consistently.

The Raddison in Utica is nice. It’s about 45 minutes away from the school.
