Visiting Yale with S.
Looking for a place to stay that is clean, safe and within 1/2 hour drive of Yale. Don't need fancy. Would prefer under $150.

You can try LaQuinta in New Haven and Best Western in West Haven. The Marriott and Omni are closest- almost on campus, but may be out of your price range. Check to be sure. THis link has some info. Commencement 2008 - Accommodations

The Colony Inn should have reopened by now and in the past was less expensive than the Marriott. It's just a couple blocks from campus.

Courtyard Marriott is a great place in terms of convenience...includes parking which might make it more competitive than the cost of a different spot and parking while visiting Yale.

The LaQuinta mentioned above is next door to Ikea.....so, that can be a fun spot to stay if you want to hit up Ikea also.

The Omni is nearby...but the Pen Pilot tennis tournament in August can make it tougher to get a room.....and I think the Marriott is a better deal.

Also, include AAA in your pricing options with any places you are considering staying at.... a lot of these places have corporate rates that equal AAA rates. Definitely worth exploring.

There is also a Homewood Suites in Wallingford CT that is not that far away and is also reasonably priced. The Living Room has a couch that opens up along with master bedroom.....

Good luck....

HI, maineparent, what is Ikea? Thanks.

^^some consider it paradise: IKEA | Home, IKEA, furniture, kitchens, appliances, sofas, beds, mattresses, tables, chairs, decorations

yeah but it is the type of paradise that you can't leave... there are no exits...

We were doing multiple schools visits one after the next so I was looking for cheap but clean. For Yale we stayed 10 - 15 minutes from campus at the Best Western Executive Hotel. My notes state that we paid $109 + taxes for a 2 Queen double. Free continental breakfast - good for a grab of a quick coffee etc.

IKEA is a cool store. Only been to it twice in Mass because it is not nearby. Basically a lot of inexpensive furniture and accessories.

Thanks, riverrunner, yalie343, smoda61,

It looks that there are quite some choices for hotels and shopping.
