My friend, currently a second year at UCI, has already begun to look at off campus housing. He has taken a look at Vista del Campo Housing as his first or second choice. However, he is wondering if anyone can provide him any information on VDC and/or VDC Norte (ie. pics, opinions on living there, etc. etc.)

He is also wondering how difficult it is to get a reserved spot there. Some people say it is harder to get a spot for VDC because it is older, and VDC Norte is newer and it is easier to get. He is unsure if that is true.

He is also wondering on the size of a VDC Norte 1 bedroom- 1 bathroom Undergraduate room. on VDC it lists it as 550 square feet, however, VDC Norte does not list this information on the website. Can anyone provide this information?

Thanks in advance from friend.

EDIT: He is also wondering how soon he should submit the application. He is looking for a contract length starting in June 2007 and running the full calendar year (June 2007 to June 2008), what is the latest that he should submit his application in order to have a decent chance at getting a spot?

VDC and VDC norte are pretty much the same but VDC has bigger rooms and bigger beds but its a year older. They arent that hard to get into, you can easily get wait listed, the hard part is getting the EXACT requirements taht your looking for. You may no get a 4 rm 4 bath or something it jsut depends. Also parking may not be easy.

They offer 2 types of leases, academic year and year round, so depends if your friends is gonna go away for the summer. If he is interested i say he should apply and then see what they say. Most likely they will get in to Norte since its newer, i believe its not even full atm

Problem is that VDC offers a contract length beginning in June, whereas VDC Norte does not. My friend is planning on taking summer school for Summer 2007, and is hoping to get a contract that begins in June. Do you think that by contacting VDC Norte, a contract beginning in June could be arranged?

CHP students get guaranteed housing for four years, I don't understand why you would want to apply to VDC/Norte unless you would want a single.

Other than that, I do not believe that CHP students benefit when applying to VDC/Norte, although I suppose you can always call them to make sure.

No point in looking at VDC anymore. UCI basically bought it up and is kicking the current residents out so that they could make room for next years 2nd years and incoming 1st years. So much for the "current resident priority."

Very disappointed in the way that VDC handled this. They did not give any warning to their residents of this.
