How are incoming freshmen competing against the transfers at this school if I understand it correctly that these transfer students are NOT entering as freshmen and are therefore NOT taking any freshmen slots. I may be misunderstanding?

I will be attending Viterbo.

The only thing that would change it is if I get into Roosevelt, with a bigger scholarship.

Thanks for the ego boost, guys.... I was really excited.

Liz MT,

You can't let anyone else change your feelings, or mess with your confidence. When my D and I were at the unifieds in Chicago, we had the chance to see Jersey Boys. My D was able to meet a few of the performers afterwards. The best advice they gave her was that it isn't the program; it's the person and the desire to work hard that really matters in the business. Sure, there will always be one program that is deemed better than another, but Viterbo is a good school. Feel good about yourself; you are a strong young lady who knows what she wants and is going for it. Don't let anyone deter your enthusiasm. You go girl!!!

And one final note... there are a lot of performers who have strong careers who never even went to college.

Liz MT,
when i was reading this i was really ****ed off for your sake and mine, seeing that Viterbo was my second choice and i was seriously excited for it, honestly im sick of hearing about "top schools" Boco and Umich can blow it out their...well you get where im going with this.
The point is youre motivated, which isnt what you can say about half these kids who have never worked a real day in their life. So go ahead they can have their 40k year schools, we will take the motivation.
Rock on!
(no 'fense Boco or Umich kids)

You_yesxyoui......I am excited for you and Liz about your upcoming schools!

Please do not generalize that kids who attend "top schools" or "40K" schools have never worked a real day in their life, or are not as motivated. Sorry, but that is a gross and untrue generalization. For example, my own kid attends a very expensive MT program that is well known and is on financial aid and she also has worked and continues to earn money and is very motivated. I am excited for ANY student who is going to enter ANY college. I don't see the need for putting down or generalizing any sorts of colleges or any sorts of students who attend them.

LizMT, I didn't mean to imply (and it sounds like I did when I re-read my post) that Viterbo is not a good school or even a top school. It was on our original list of 4 schools which subsequently changed to 8. We were just a little discussted with the number of spots changing from the time we visited over the summer and the time she auditioned. There is a girl that graduated from there that went to my D's high school and is working on Broadway. I'll post her name when I get a chance to ask my D but my point is that this is a good program and you should be excited!
You_yesxyoui - there certainly are a bunch of spoiled brats out there but there are many that aren't as well. I certainly feel the same sense of snobery when others post about the top schools but I think some parents are just really proud of their kids and while I'm sure there are some snobs out there most are probably down to earth hard working people.

im not saying that everyone is like that, maybe i just happen to meet them ALL

I am still excited. I just felt a little hurt when the school was attacked. There is such an emphasis on who got into what school and people base their opinions on how talented people are because of what school they are going to. Personally, I find that ridiculous. Some of the most talented people I know are going to JCs and state schools that are not BoCo or NYU or Michigan. There is nothing wrong with that.

Personally, I plan to be the new big name that puts Viterbo on the map...

Liz...you go girl!

Thanks, sooz.

What does one have to do to get Viterbo on the main list of schools?

I would love to be able to share my experiences next year and have more students get interested any hyped.

I believe you put in a request to RogerDooley... Collegemom... Soozie??

Kat

I've been reading the posts about Viterbo and biting my tongue-but I can't any longer. Viterbo University was one of the schools that we visited while looking at MT programs in Wisconsin. I have only visited 2 out of state programs -one was in the "big list",another was a well known college(acting -not MT). I will not mention their names-I only bring it up to show our inexperience in this process. The point is there are very real people on that little college campus in La Crosse, Wisconsin. We found the faculty and the students to be warm, supportive, talented, and giving. I can't say enough wonderful things about these people - that's right there are people there-students that have hopes and dreams and faculty that are inspirational and caring and loving (they keep a food pantry for students that find themselves in need of a meal) I don't know if every college is like this-some more than others-some less- The bottom line -I met people there that touched my heart-they touched my son's heart. No student that goes to Viterbo has anything to be ashamed of. There is a long history at Viterbo.
No my son will not be going to Viterbo- he chose to decline. He is going to another state school(which is not on "the list"). Life is difficult enough without making 18 year old kids feel bad about the college they are in or about to enter. I also feel it is disrespectful to a group of people that I would be proud to have train my child. Just about 2 cents worth!

(And this is totally unrelated - They were going to give my son a $8,000/yr scholarship-not a lot-but not peanuts either. Also we were told from the start the numbers they were going to admit were not exact but less than 10. )

Liz...
I have put in a request to Roger Dooley to add Viterbo as a MT school sub forum since we have existing threads on this school (one criteria for adding a forum) and because you plan to share your experiences next year here....please do!

I don't have the tools to take care of this but hopefully I will hear back from Mr. Dooley about this request.

Thanks, collegemom!

Liz.... love your attitude! My s was accepted to 9 other programs, including full tuition to another well respected program, and chose Viterbo hands down. I think you two are going to have a great experience at a great school! We were very impressed by the faculty and the curriculum...and the amount of personal attention each student receives. The faculty is talented, energetic and forward-thinking without being artistically aloof. This is my second son to enter a theater program (the other one is at one of the "name" schools) so I have looked at and visited a lot of programs. Viterbo is somewhat unknown now, but I think you are in on the start of something big!

Mudlark, welcome! I am in awe of your son for being admitted to TEN BFA programs! I haven't run into too many who can say that and so kudos to him.

mudlark -

Wow. Your S must be incredible! If he has a facebook, I started a group called "Viterbo Theatre Majors" that he should join and find the other people who will be attending Viterbo and currently are attending!

sorry...didn't mention that my S's were designers..which makes the competition decidely less fierce. although, of course, we do think S is incredible. my point wasn't to glorify his acceptance rate, but rather to point out that he had several very good options. just wanted to chime in as it seemed like Viterbo was taking some unfair hits. between our two boys, we have personally visited 12 of the biggest programs in the country and researched many more. we all feel that Viterbo has a unique vision backed by some great people and, as S says, made him feel like a person, not just a number. we think he will really thrive in La Crosse!

Hope you notice that now Viterbo's MT program has its own sub forum on the MT Forum and I have moved all existing Viterbo threads to this forum. Hope more will come here to share about this program.
