Do you have first hand knowledge of a volunteer abroad program? I have been looking for my 17 year old daughter. She is esp. interested in going to a Spanish speaking country. She is not looking for a tour or vacation but really a volunteer experience for 4-6 weeks. Many of the programs are much more vacation than volunteering and some do not appear to be reputable. I did find two pages which were of some help. International Volunteer Programs Association Funding Your Volunteering Abroad Trip

So if you had a good or bad or so so experience volunteering abroad, please share here.
Thank you!

I went to Nicaragua last summer with Amgio’s For Christ and had the most amazing experience. I am not sure if your family or your daugter is Christian, but regardless the organization is so generous and well planned out. I was very impressed with my experience and the oorganization as a whole. The mission trip is not a vacation but it is still fun, we did a lot and I mean A LOT of labor but we also got to vist orphanages and teach kids-- it was amazing.

I did Projects Abroad a couple years ago when I was 16 (youngest age they took). They offer tons of different projects in many different countries. I loved my experience and actually ended up extending my trip once I was there (5 weeks total). If I recall correctly, they have special programs for teens but I passed those up because they looked too vacation-y. However, I did their normal volunteer program which allows the volunteers entire freedom in duration of volunteering and I think provides for a very good experience.
