What kind of volunteer work do colleges prefer? I recently started a brass quintet at my high school and was thinking about performing for service hours. How do you all get volunteering done?

That’s a great idea.
The thing is volunteer work is that it should preferably be something you are personally interested in. So students interested in a med. future should volunteer at hospitals and such. I love cooking so I work in the soup kitchen because that’s where I think I would contribute the most, and I also help in a children’s community theatre because I’m the costume designer at my high school.
If you are very involved in music, definitely go for it. You can volunteer to cheer up children at a day care or the elderly at a nursing home with performances and such, for example. You can also ask your music teacher(s?) if they can get you some performance connections or suggestions.
In terms of how you get all that volunteering done, as my APUSH teacher tells me class all the time, “inch by inch, life’s a cinch, yard by yard, life is hard.”
