Vote for where I should attend college

I really can't decide between Purdue University and Virginia Tech. I am going for engineering and loved both schools. At Purdue I would be doing an Engineering program in the college of agriculture but would try and transfer into a different program that I prefer much more in the college of engineering. At VT I am straight in Engineering, there are no conflicts. OOS for both. Purdue is slightly more expensive but so minimal it is not much of a difference.

Purdue, and this is mostly just because of my own personal biases when looking for colleges. They seem to have a more positive aura about the whole campus and about the whole population of the students there. Their facilities were nice and they professors that I was in contact with were very nice and helpful, even thought I’m only a junior in high school. At Vtech I didn’t get any replies from professors that I emailed, and I didn’t really have the feeling that I would ever be able to attend the school when I visited. Obviously, this is just my opinion, and you should take it with a grain of salt because I haven’t the slightest clue where you would fit in best. Also, I know that professors have a lot of work to do and that sometimes they can’t get back to high schoolers who aren’t the most important thing on their list, however, it was very nice that Purdue’s professors did get back to me. I do think that an engineering education from either school would be fantastic, and it really would mostly depend on where you felt you fit best.

Why would you not take the certain Eng School at VT when your major would be uncertain at Purdue? I think the schools are quite comparable academically.

Purdue may be slightly superior in engineering, but I don’t think it matters that much and I would not want to risk being shut out of your major.

Well what I plan to go into is ecological (pretty much environmental) engineering and I got into natural resources engineering at Purdue, which is the same except more focused on agricultural production. I would do first year engineering courses and would be able to switch to the college of engineering if I maintained a 2.8. Then I would be able to do their ecological engineering program. I feel intimidated by the difficulty of the curriculum though which supposedly has quite a high drop out rate. I feel I may fit into Purdue’s social scene a little better too. Virginia Tech also has better food but very bad dorms.

^ So, is admission to the engineering school guaranteed if you maintain a 2.8?

In the core engineering classes I believe it is or at least pretty certain.
