voting

What is the protocol for national elections? Will they be getting liberty or will we need to send them an application for an absentee ballot?

Absentee Ballot....no liberty to vote as far as I know. Also some of the Mids will be at sea as well so always have the absentee ballot done!

FYI: We got a message about a month ago from one of the political parties. Noting that they had requested an absentee ballot for S , since he was at a service academy).

The message was nice enough, not directing him to vote for anyone in particular (but please exercise your right to vote). Now, whether that was some roster provided by Academy, by the nominating senator, or what ... I don't know.

But SOME political party's canvassing unit is ON THE BALL with that one.
I have not asked S if he's received it yet (so I don't know if they've shipped them out yet).

If you need one, just have your Mid google "absentee ballot". www. govoteabsentee. org seems neutral, and is useful for figuring out whom to contact -- local board of elections, phone numbers, etc. I'd suffix the google search with your state, since some have different requirements -- what's your date of birth, what's your drivers license number, etc.

They can get the form (or format) that their own local board of elections wants. Print it out, sign it, and mail it in.

However, I'd have to imagine that USMMA has some process in place to ensure the students know what to do. (but with some kids getting ready to go to sea at the beginning of November, it would be nice to check that they've done their paperwork regarding this) HTH

All forms, addresses, and instructions are there as well as the postage-free envelope.

Also here are some other links for absentee ballot.

OR

MILITARY VOTING

Thank you for the valuable info. I will forward it to my plebe.

They are on Fall Leave for Election Day.

excellent point! i guess they will be able to go to their home polls!

Oliver Says...

If they are old enough to vote, they are old enough to figure it out themselves..they have the internet...keep politics out of the military!!!

well hello there Oliver........long time no words :) Welcome back!!

won't we all be home for election day this year...

I wish all were going to be home, but 3C's on A split should be catching their ship,,,right?

For those who don't go home or vote absentee, students may also register in New York and vote there if they register locally by Oct. 10. If voting absentee, make sure you are aware of the deadlines to REQUEST a ballot as well as RETURNING the ballot. And remember the promptness of KP mail!
