W A I T L I S T E D for RD

also, forgot to mention that i sent an appeal because im currently taking 5 ap classes, self studying 2 for a total of 7 [taking ap stats, ap spanish, ap calculus bc, ap physics b, ap microeconomics].

microecon was only a semester class. basically, i have 6 weighted classes in my schedule [honors orchestra is the 6th weighted class] so my semester gpa ended up being 4.71 due to 5 weighted a’s, 1 nonweight a, and one weighted b.

do they waitlist people who have stats that are higher than average and are therefore not likely to attend?? thats one reason i have heard of

Waitlisted for biomed engineering.

SAT: 2100
CSU GPA 4.17
SATII: Math II 800 BioE 770
3 APs taken: 5 on Calc AB and Bio, 3 on English language
2 APs in progress

I’m Chinese and live in CA

heartarrow… the explicitly say that “grades earned in the current semester” are not grounds for an appeal, just fyi.

waitlisted, mechanical engineering

GPA: 4.31
ACT:32
5 APs passed

My god… I’m feeling lucky now…

wait listed for mechanical engineering

3.5 UW/4.2W/4.0 UC
2180 SAT (1480 CR/M)
31 ACT

URM, first gen, in state
5 APs
250 service hours

and judging from past threads they tend to waitlist “overqualified” applicants which i think is complete bull****

i know they dont take senior grades, i merely stated that it is my first choice school

D waitlisted for nutrition today.
Freshman applicant
Does anyone have info on chances of getting off the waitlist?

Yeah it definitely seems like they’re waitlisting high end applicants. I don’t see any other reason why. They definitely learned from last year’s mistake of admitting too many freshman. Crappy way of solving the situation IMO, but admissions officers probably know better than me.

Sent from my MB855 using CC

Wow, wait listed for business admin. 3.8 gpa, 32 ACT, and African American. Many people from my school have gotten in with much lower stats

What do I do if calpoly portal says i’ve been wait listed but I never got the email to confirm I still want to go there?

On 2/25/2012 I went to my account and discovered

You have been placed on the waitlist at Cal Poly for Fall. You will be receiving a letter with more information very shortly.

They promised - a letter
I didn’t get anything - no mail, no e-mail

Today, on 3/01/2012 I found new message in my account

You have been placed on the waitlist at Cal Poly for fall. You will be emailed a survey confirming if you would like to remain on the waitlist or no longer be considered for admission to Cal Poly. Once you receive email, respond promptly to the survey.

What kind of question is it?
Yes, I want to stay on WAITLIST
I could give you my acceptance to UCI.

Seems really stupid that they wait-list the more qualified candidates… maybe they’ve had bad experiences with accepting too many top notch students who then just go to other universities, or they’re just stupid. Either way, you all should appeal, I can’t imagine that after that they would still deny you.

@Seniorsfo, I checked my portal just now after reading what you said, and I found the exact same message, except I was put on the waitlist on the evening of the 27th…

I called on the 28th asking about that message, but whoever I was talking to seemed really unsure of herself when I was asking what they meant by “You will be receiving a letter with more information very shortly.” She said that we would be getting something in the mail…

The admissions office is very…confused, I think.

I just got waitlisted for Economic…
At least I can stop checking my portal every hour

I got waitlisted last year with a GPA .24 lower than this year. The letter comes later. I didn’t ever receive an email. Do yourself a favor and forget about it. I waited until July to hear from them (transfer) and be rejected last year. You’ll drive yourself nuts for nothing. They haven’t had to pull from their waitlist in years. They told me those exact words last year, and told me I should focus on my other options.

Go with another school, or raise your stats at the JC. The waitlist is hopeless. I’m just being honest to save you the hell this process can cause. If you got waitlisted there, you should have gotten into another perfectly good school. At least you know your fate, unlike me. They’ll send you an email IF and that’s a big IF, you were to be selected off of the waitlist. Otherwise, you’ll be checking that god foresaken portal for months.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA (CSU):4.14

of passed AP: 3 (EnglishLanguage: 3, EnvironmentalScience: 3, Statistics: 4)

Wait listed for aerospace engineering.

3.95 Weighted GPA
32 ACT
21+ hours of ECs per week
4 APs passed

Waitlisted.

Major: Aerospace Engineering
GPA: 4.09
SAT: 2040

of passed AP: 4, 3 more this summer

I found this on the Cal Poly Site:

“Cal Poly also utilizes a Wait List process for outstanding freshman and transfer applicants who are not selected through the regular selection process. Those offered Wait List status are notified they will be considered for admission again should additional openings occur in their declared major. Freshman candidates on Wait List will be notified of the final decision regarding their Wait List status by May 15th, while transfer candidates will be notified by July 15th.”

But the deadline to send in the SIR for UC schools is on May 1st. What happens if I don’t send in an SIR by May 1st and then get a rejection from Cal Poly D:
