My son is attending W&M in the Fall as a 1693 & Monroe Scholar. He can live in Monroe if he wants, but isn't sure if it's a "good" dorm, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I searched the archives but didn't pull anything up. Thanks!

Monroe has its good sides and its bad - it’s on the old side, and it’s not air-conditioned - but it’s in a wonderful location on the old campus on Richmond road that’s pretty hard to beat (imo - I love the old campus.) If your son or roommate has an allergy or whatever, and can have an A/C for the few weeks that require it, (as an old building, no realistic chance of central air) then I’d say it’s as good as it gets.

Of course, Monroe is the home to Monroe and 1692 scholars (not exclusively) - so the vibe tends more to the “studious” type, so if that’s not his style, he might prefer to just take his chances.

Congrats, and best of luck to him.

Monroe is a good location… downside is no A/C
