Hi,
Some of my colleges on CSS Profile are requesting W2 forms. I have physical copies of them (like sent from the govt). I also have them in my tax return. I think the person my parents hired to do the taxes typed it up and filed it.
Should I use the physical copy? Not sure about the digital copy because anyone can manipulate digital forms and I don’t want that possibility floating around (colleges thinking that). Which one will be safer to use?
Also, my accountant sent us the PDF version of our tax returns. Is this okay to submit? The scanned physical file I tried to submit was too big.
Thanks
What are the options that the school gives you for providing the form to them? Use whatever option is most convenient for you. If scanning the form and then sending it electronically is an option, that’s a digital copy – don’t worry about sending a digital copy.
@BelknapPoint It isn’t school specific in terms of which options are available. Once I go to upload tax forms, it says a digital version is preferred, but a scanned copy is acceptable. I’m assuming this is the same protocol for all schools because there’s only one tax form I can upload and the page before uploading this says that.
Different schools have different protocols, and it’s possible that there can be different versions of the same W-2 (but still have the same numbers/data). Whether you already have it as a digital version or you scan a paper version first, if you send it electronically, it’s in digital format.
