Wait...hold on...aid is a gift not a right

Alright…I am through being grumpy about it all. Congrats to all. No matter what path gets them there, I wish everyone the best of luck and hope that they have the best and most rewarding college experience that they can.

As my son would say, “Don’t be a hater…or hate the game, not the playa.” I’m sure that I somehow mangled that. Kids…sigh.

I agree FA is a gift but, I also feel (and quite correctly so) that universities need to be more forth-right and open about their FA packages, Stafford Loans aren’t aid (or maybe more precisly not gifts), they are loans which the student pays back with interest (not a gift), work study is not guaranteed and the student works for that money, again not a gift. The only gift money is grant money because the student is truly given this money. I got a good chuckle when one of the universities my son was accept to claimed to be offering $27,000 in FA and only $6000 in grants…gimme a break! My son ended up taking a Full Ride Academic Scholarship to a smaller school…the FA business is a scam
