wait-list acceptances

Question #1: I read somewhere that some people have already been notified of their rejection off Princeton’s waitlist… Can anyone confirm this?
If Princeton has notified their first wave of accepted students off the WL as well as rejected some students… those who are still waiting should take it as a positive news cuz there is still some chance!

Question #2: Did you guys [those who got accepted off the WL] send in additional materials such as a letter, updated grades, etc?

I don’t want to make it sound as if athletics is overriding academics in my situation, but Princeton offers a much greater athletic opportunity for me. I’m not planning on being a professional athlete but I love my sport and want to carry the experience as far as I can. I have a spot on both teams but Princeton’s program is far superior and, although I will be the low-man on the totem pole, I definitely believe I will be a better athlete with that type of competition and coaching. Williams is the best D3 athletics program in the nation but its program is weak at this moment and offers less competition than Princeton. And it has been my dream for 3 years to compete Division I in college.

Academically, it is a choice of preference. Both are excellent schools; Williams may be a bit more ideal because its professors are focused almost solely on undergraduate education. But I don’t think that makes up the gap I described above. I’m absolutely sure that I will succeed in both situations and find my way to a top graduate school. So all I’m going by now is my gut.

I’m leaning toward Princeton because the situation is a dream. But I’m really overblowing this decision. I can’t go wrong either way. I’m just blessed to have this decision in the first place.

I personally don’t think its ridiculous to go with the school you prefer athletically. It’s going to be a huge part of your life at College.

My D sent in one letter updating admissions on her recent accomplishments. She offered to have her grades sent if requested but they never did. She also made it clear in her letter that if she was accepted off the WL she would accept.

CambridgeSenior: I did not send anything extra.

Sounds like I hit a raw nerve. If you are insecure about Princeton, rest assured that it is a fine school- my post was in no way intended to be deprecating- simply to point out that SWA and HYP are of the same caliber, but have different strengths and emphases.

It’s very true. Your team participation will shape much of your social experience wherever you go to school. And set up your network for professional support later in life.

I got a call Wednesday, and I’m in! I didn’t send in any supplemental materials or updates.

wizzle, my son was accepted to both Princeton and Yale. He liked Princeton very much and its a number one school in USA along with Harvard. He spent about a month to decide between those fine schools. He chose Yale because of his pre-med track only. Princeton was his dream school. Go to Princeton.

Hey, any International Applicant here who got off the wait-list at Princeton??
Does Princeton start taking Internationals a bit later??
Really worried here…

Dad2, sorry but you didn’t hit a raw nerve. Just trying to correct your ridiculous comments that claimed Williams to be significantly superior to Princeton as you have done with these remarks:

Although Williams is a good school, it doesn’t come close to Princeton’s quality.

Has anyone received their official packet yet? The lady who called me about my admission on Thursday told me that I should receive it the next day along with my financial aid decision through overnight mail.

What Dad2 was trying to say is that it is difficult to compare Williams, a small Liberal Arts College, to Princeton, a University. Williams is considered the best of the LACs (along with a few others) and Princeton is considered the best of the Universities (along with a few others).

I don’t know why you’re being such a dick about it, JohnAdams.

Not trying to be rude to anyone, but perhaps JohnAdams was just pointing out that an Aston Martin compared to an Escalade wasn’t such a great example. Yes, the point is that they each serve their functions well, but an Aston Martin is also considered to be much more impressive than a Cadillac Escalade in many ways.

As someone who has a passion for automobiles, I can see what JohnAdams is saying. The analogy seems to suggest that Williams is not just different, but far superior, to Princeton – something the writer probably didn’t intend.

I can see why someone would be upset at the analogy, but I think what some of us (myself and JohnAdams) perceived as an issue with it was unintentional.

Sorry if I’m putting words in peoples’ mouths.

I might have started this debate. Let us help Wizzle in picking a good college of his choice. Both are good colleges and its upto wizzle to decide. These forums help countless students in different ways, lets not continue pointing fingers at one another. I am a father of current Yalie(class of 2014). Since my son is very busy at studies, I spent some time in these forums and gained valuable knowledge about college admissions. We visited Princeton last year and fell in love with it. My son attended Princeton preview days and loved it very much. At the end, he chose Yale because Yale is better for pre-med kids. That is his conclusion. Best of luck…

Someone from my school got in off the waitlist… so thats another spot gone if anyone is counting

Where are u from 5thCamaro??
R u and ur friend International Applicants??

I’m from Northern CA (Bay Area) and was called on Wednesday.
I received their admit packet just yesterday :)

I’m very excited that I’ve been accepted but am still trying to make a decision between Princeton and the Caltech-UCSD Medical Scholars program. Any advice? haha…

!!! Does no one really know about international students? I am dying. DYING hahah
I bet they don’t accept any since no international student would reject Princeton and they don’t need anymore … :(

I’m an internatonal student
I just got a mail frm an admin officer saying that theyll be admitting a small number from the waitlist, but how many hasnt been determined :/
