I chose NYU too while waiting for this! Heh... nice to know there's more of us out there.

Groan. Doesn't sound too promising. Sorry the news wasn't better. I guess we'll know today or tomorrow when letters should be arriving. Good luck to everyone!

I keep riding on the notion that they were sent Monday-- which may or may not even be true....

Okay, I am going to tell you all the truth b/c I hate all the speculation. I am sorry to inform you that I talked to the admissions office and they told me that they had only accepted 2 people for each of the colleges with the exception of NHS. They have already cotacted those people by phone. They placed 100 people on an extended summer waitlist, and I was one of them. The rest were let go from the waitlist. Georgetown mailed their letters yesterday, May 15, 2007.

Thanks for the information, Crog. I wonder if they will even go to the extended wait list this year. What are you going to do?

Idk Dcdude...its very difficult because at NYU you ahve to put down something like 3,000 before you even start...I really am nto sure I can take the agony of waiting until what theya dmited could be as late as August to hear...they told me vower the phone they would probably and usually take about 5/100 on that waiytlsit...Im just not sure I want to conntinue to play this game tiwh them. I think I will call them back to talk to them soon, possibly today.

says Georgetown expects to take same # as last year off WL, which they say was 25

DuckPond: I didn't see the article, but do you mean 25/100? Those would not be bad odds.

Crog: I understand how you feel. August is a long time to wait especially with payments due. It's also just hard on the soul. Our mail has not yet arrived so don't know what the options are. Auggh!!!!!

well i also talked to admissions today and they said they only took students off the waitlist from NHS-- but yes, there is an extended waitlist.

I'm a little confused about duckpond's earlier post...are you talking about the extended waitlist when you say they will take off the same number as last year?

I'm a little sad about my call with GU today-- but now I can finally get excited about where I WILL BE next year---Northwestern!

I also called Georgetown and they confirmed everything you guys said. I have been placed on the extended waitlist of 100 people. I don't think that they have any idea how many they may potentially take off the extended waitlist, so I think the the 25 number refers to the total taken off the waitlist, with the majority of those coming from the NSH.

Sorry, but I dont have an online subscription so I cant post a link, but it was an article, in the Personl Journal Section (page D1), entitled "Hope Dims for Kids on College Wait Lists; Many Schools Take Fewer Backup Applicants Because of Higher-than-Expected First-Rround Yields"

On page D8 there is a chart where it shows certain schools and their 2006 and 2007 (projected) waitlist use.

Maybe someone w/ a subscription can post a link.

actually, because it was in today's paper so you don't need to be a subscriber. here is the link:

just scroll down and the chart is towards the bottom of the article.

Thank you both. Grim news, especially since the 25 could all/mostly be from NHS.

That is rather disappointing news. It's very frustrating as someone who is most likely not on the "extended waitlist" (like myself) as well because it's basically like... well we put you on the waitlist first, then we decided to make a super-wait-list and take over a thousand kids off of it. I would get it if Gtown had a priority waitlist initially, but.. eh. Oh well.
But seriously. Good luck to those of you still in the game.

great Point supergwin...I actually talked with georgetown again today and they said that they had kids calling that got into harvard and princeton from the wl who are elaving gtown...so that there was more "wiggle room" with this years extended wl than last years. She confirmed, which i guess is good news, that they are NOT over enrolled as was the case last year. Also, thankfully, they did say that they would make all final decisions by June 30 but possibly before then. I would be nterested to know exactly how many people go onto the "extended WL"....I suppose wewill all know soon based on how many of us get onto it. You know georgetown is my dream school...but it certainly is very difficult to be playing this game....its almost like the lottery where the huge prize is there but its almost impossible to get even though it is amde to seem attainable. I am going to trust gtown as I always have, stay on the WL, and hold out hope. You never know.

Anybody get word today???

Crog, I'm very sorry that things are so uncertain for you now. I can't imagine still not having heard anything, but I extend my luck. Where do you plan on enrolling if you don't get off the wailtlist at gtown?

Thank you mr. moggles, I have my depost at NYU currently.

does anyone know how many students were on the waitlist originally? around 2,000? i'm not sure, just guessing, hopefully someone knows.

hey kpm, according to georgetown, there were 1500 waiylist offers made, or around 10% of the total applicant pool, and about half, or 750, sent the card back in favor of remaining on the list.
