Just found out son is wait listed at UDel and was disappointed since it was his top choice. However he got accepted to Syracuse, UVM, and UNH into mechanical engineering and UVM is giving him two scholarships. I don't believe UVMs engineering school is as respected as UDel but would like to hear from others about this. I looked at UDels wait list stats from last three years and it's not consistent at all and seems like a big crap shoot. I'm sure we will have to put deposit elsewhere to be safe, but how do you all feel the waitlist game? Should he go where he was accepted and given money?

My son was also accepted into UVM engineering, w/ about $8k in scholarship money. The problem is that UVM is very overpriced to begin with, so even UNH w/ no money is about the same (low $40s). If money is an issue at all I’d pick UNH. I hear it’s got a little better reputation than UVM in engineering. So it might depend how much UVM is giving him. Sounds like you’ll have to pay the money for the waitlist at UD and wait and see and also deposit at a New England School. I’m assuming no money at Syracuse? My son applied to most of these same schools.

No, kbiresearch, no money at Syracuse, at least not yet as we just got the acceptance. However it’s really not still a contender anymore for son. UDel doesn’t require a deposit to stay on Wait List, but we would have to put a deposit at UVM or UNH since UDels decision would most likely be after May 1. I’d kind of like to have this all wrapped up by May 1, know where he’ll be, what his costs will be, go to Orientation on time, so am unsure about whether to go with the wait list.
