Just received this status today for Summer 2012 application.

We are offering you a place on our wait list for future consideration. Certainly, we understand that this may make it difficult for you to finalize your college enrollment plans, especially as they relate to housing and responses to other offers of admission. Therefore, we are asking that you indicate whether you would like to be placed on the wait list or if you wish to cancel your application by selecting your desired preference below. If you choose to be placed on our wait list, we anticipate providing you with a final notification of your admission decision no later than May 31st.

Disclaimer: This is your current status. Your status is subject to change at any time depending upon receipt of new information and further review by the Admissions Committee.

Does anyone know anybody that got accepted after being wait listed? I'm so upset. I guess its better than outright rejection.

Hi-
Based on information listed on the UCF website from prior years, those placed on a wait list have an approximate 1 in 14 chance of gaining admissions. Also, your kid may want to retake his SAT/ACT in order to improve his chances if he decides to be placed on a wait list. I believe this is a nice way of saying that admissions is slim at best and UCF is suggesting that you make alternate plans. Although this may not be the response you guys were looking for, but at least the admissions committee hasn’t either rejected your child application. Could you also please list your kids stats ?
Good luck !

Students do get in off the waiting list but you can’t depend on it. Several years ago my son was deferred for semester grades, after he sent his grades he was placed on the waiting list. He was offered admission in late April but by then he lost interest and enrolled in another school. You should look at other schools in the meantime. You won’t hear anything until they start getting responses from the admitted students wating for UF, in Febrary and private schools in April. Good luck,

From UCF’s 2011-2012 Common Data Set report:

C2. Freshman wait-listed students
(students who met admission requirements but whose final admission was contingent on space availability)
Do you have a policy of placing students on a waiting list? yes: no:
If yes, please answer the questions below for fall 2011 admissions:

Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list 3229
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 1168
Number of wait-listed students admitted 90

Is your waiting list ranked? No

Not very good odds 90 out of 3229. Good luck if you have financial need. I’d tell UCF to get jammed if offered spot on wait-list!

BrowardMom or any of you who may like to jump on this question, I submitted my fall grades for UCF so I can go in summer 2012. I will be earning my AA in early may, would they be able to accept me even without having my final grades for this spring term or would they defer?

I am jumping in on your answer. My son was accepted to UCF last fall pending his AA from Sante Fe College providing he passed all classes he was currently enrolled. So yes they will accept you pending graduation. Depending on your GPA now will determine when they will let you know and which college you signed up for in UCF.
He was accepted the first day they started fall applications for FSU and UCF but felt FSU was to far from south florida and liked UCF since high school so he immediately accepted.
I am going to STRESS that as soon as you find out if you are accepted go sign up immediatly to get your orientation appointment. Last year the first 2 months were booked already and it does limit the classes that you can sign up for at orientation. The good thing is you can constantly check to see if a class opens up and they do so that you can fix your schedule.
Hoped I helped.

My daughter was offered admission for summer 2012 after being wait-listed in January. Of course we already put a deposit down on tuition, dorms, and orientation at another school. Now we don’t know what we are going to do. But I wanted to bring hope to others who have been wait-listed. Good luck to all.

My son was just accepted Fall 2012 after being on the wait list for many months. 3.46 GPA 1770 SAT and almost all AP classes since 9th grade, we dont know why he was waitlisted to begin with? He just accepted at FGCU last week but when we got the change in application satus he said sorry mom but I want UCF so yes kids do get off the wait list. We wrote letters, had teachers write letters even had principal give a call of refrence hoping all this would help. I am so happy for him and hope everyone else gets the answer they want.
