When I did my application, I had a 4.0 u.w. GPA and this 1st semester of my senior year I took 5 AP classes and got 3 Bs and 2 As. I dropped down in rank and GPA and I know this will greatly affect my chances. On my status site it says that USC "sometimes" request for mid year grades and even if they don't ask for it I should send it. Well...is that optional though? I mean, what if I choose not to send it? Is that okay? Or will they start sending notices to me demanding that I submit mid year grades?

DD did not send in mid year report. She got accepted at USC. Her senior grades did drop. So don't send your mid year report if you don't think your grades are stellar. Only send them if USC actually requests them.

I have a question. My first semester grades of senior are 5 A's and 1 B+. The problem is that 4 A's are from AP classes, 1 A from orchestra, and the B+ is from a regular class! Would this look bad to USC?

I think that looks good. You should compare with your Junior year. Did you get straight As in your senior year. But I still think if you have more As than Bs and god forbid C's than that is very good mid year report.

I think you're fine Senluck. Those grades are quite good. unless your one B was in a ridiculously easy class like intro to ceramics or PE or something, then... idk.
notaznguy I think your grades are fine too. from your other posts, I read what classes you got B's in and I think it's fine. They're really tough classes. good luck!

What if you got all A's your second quarter, except one C+? Should I sent them in? I sent in my fall trimester grades (I switched schools after my fall trimester into a school that uses a semester system).

I had no C's on the fall trimester grades, and the A's will boost some grades up....should I submit them as some grades will go up, or should I not because of the C+?

Thanks for the comments guys. Since they have not made a decision yet, I guess I will submit it right now.

what? i got a letter today asking for my midyear. and we're not gonna have grades for another month. :(

but for you, if they haven't asked you, and you don't want to, so why bother?

Columbia_Student, did your D get accepted during the Jan-Feb period where she received a scholarship? Or was she accepted during the March period?

I applied for the Jan.10 deadline and I would still like a 100% confirmation if we HAVE to send in mid year grades even if USC doesn't ask for them (considering that I applied for the Jan. 10 date, therefore I will not be receiving a scholarship).

I'm reluctant to send in my mid year grades because it marks a downward trend. From my freshman-junior year I had straight As (4.0 uw) and my 1st semester senior year, I had 2 As (AP Lit, AP Govt.) and 3 Bs (AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, AP Chemistry).

I know UCs don't request for mid year grades before they make their decisions so I'm not really worried about those schools; it's just USC I'm concerned about. So is there anyone that applied for the NON-scholarship deadline last year that received their admission notice in March that did NOT send their mid year grades in?

^She applied by Dec 10. She got accepted 1/31/08. No scholarship, not yet anyway. A lot of her friends with stats(2100+, 3.4uw) have been accepted to College of Engineering yesterday, no possible scholarship at all. So the 3rd wave is out.
I don't beleive they send in Mid-Year report. I know my daughter didn't. Her friends have a few Cs before Senior Year, so don't worry. They all have upward trend.

notazn - you don't have to send them until you're asked, but you probably will be asked.

banana - you just send yours when they're available.

In general, if your grades have improved from your junior year, definitely send it in even if USC doesn't request for them. If your grades have dropped slightly, I doubt it'd matter and send it in if you feel like it. If your grades have dropped significantly...well, I think it'd be best to just wait and see if USC requests.

what happens if they request the grades but we don't send them? automatic rejection?

I would think that your chances of getting accepted are slim if you don't send in the required grades.
