Hi guys, I just got my D an hour ago. I was not accepted but at least I was on the wait list.

GPA: 3.86(85 credits)
EC's: Honors Program, PTK, tons of leadership and volunteers(focus on event planning)
Awards: Dean's list every quarter, many scholarships
Great recommendations, good essays
score 7.5 on IELTS (7 is competitive)

I thought my application looked great, but unfortunately it was not impressive enough for them. Do you guys think my status as an int'l and OOS community college student is the main factor that kept me from being accepted? Is there anything I can do now to increase my acceptance chance?

If anyone also stuck in this limbo, please feel free to share you thoughts and app stats here.

Decisions have not been released yet. According the the MyUNC page, ConnectCarolina will be down from Friday-Monday for census and upgrade activities. Maybe they’ll be released tomorrow or next week? The admissions blog hasn’t officially been updated.

No decisions yet. I would assume that they will probably wait a little bit longer for students to send in their final transcripts from spring semester.

Laypk: yea the OOS status w/ being international did do some harm as the percentage rate for accptance is so low for your criteria. However, the great thing is that you have the numbers. Now, you just have to build a personality by going further into your interests. Perhaps UNC wants to see you doing significant research/volunteer work/value your resource. It won’t hurt to try, and even if UNC may not accept you this year, you should definitely think about other options (uni’s) where you can even receive a helfty scholarship from too based off of merit and work done during the past years. One year can truly make a difference if you work so diligently. :)

A girl I know was deferred. UNC was her top choice so she made sure admissions knew she would jump on an acceptance if they made the offer. She ended up getting in right before high school graduation, OOS.

An email to admissions explaining that you are most definitely still interested can’t hurt.

Nothing today…guess we will have to wait until next friday…I’m surprised they didn’t post anything at all…it’s already the end of may and they don’t have any information for us except that they accepted a few instate students? I’m starting to think they’re not going to their out of state waiting list this year…Even if they just said “we’re working on it” I would be happy. I check that admissions blog like every day…:(

A girl from our school wasn’t accepted until sometime in June last year - she took it. I agree, letting them know that you will accept if given the chance is a good idea.

A guy from my school just got in from the waitlist on Thursday, in state. Don’t know if he was a part of that small group of in state kids because it was like a week after they announced it. But I guess they’re still working on it.
