Hi everyone! I want to start a thread for the class of 2027 waitlist students at UNC. I got waitlisted on 1/27/2023 at 4 PM EST (for those who might come across this thread in the future!) I wish the best of luck to everyone who is waitlisted at UNC. May as many of us get in!
omg I’ve been looking for one for so long!! any idea when the waitlist starts to move? I’m out of state so not sure if I have much luck
Two years ago 647 did (that’s their last common data set) - so hopefully you’ll get lucky!!
That’s a big # - it was about 7% of all offered a WL spot and 10% on the WL.
Good luck.
UMD Smith is a better admit than UNC.
The reason - at UNC - you can’t get into b-school until Junior year, you have to apply again and the odds aren’t great.
If you want to study business, UNC isn’t the best place - unless you want to go through two more years of torture.
Based on last year’s results, I calculated that 5/9 might be the first round, 5/30 or 6/6 is the second, 6/15 for the third, 7/30 the last. So in total 4, with 2 weeks for students to decide, and maybe one week in between to gather the info?
Do you mean 6/30? They specify the last correspondence will be no later than June 30
That’s something I will definitely consider! They prefer in state anyway so I doubt anything will happen
Omg yea that’s what I meant!! I’m just looking at my calendar and read it wrong. But because you’re oos, looking at last year’s stats, you’ve got around an 8.7%, though it might have changed for this year. I emailed the admissions office early about waitlist stuff, there were 4700 spots for 58000 applicants, which I think includes ea and rd students.
Unfortunately, they’ve updated it, and 383 students got in who applied during the fall 2022 year. 71 were in state and 312 were out of state, so I’m unsure if I’ll have a chance or not. As an in-state, based on last year’s data, I’d have a 3.8% chance of getting in…
i think it’s a lot lower and the numbers recently are skewed because waitlist rates spiked during the pandemic years. I saw something where like 71 people got off the waitlist out of state? somewhere on the UNC website I remember that number
admissions.unc.edu/faqs/what-are-my-chances-of-being-admitted-from-the-waiting-list/
just add https:// !!
That’s quite interesting - last year they offered more OOS but the year before more in-state.
But as they say, good luck to you - but honestly, don’t you want to dance with the one that wants to dance with you instead of the one who turned you down?
Best of luck where you’re headed to - or to UNC but nothing wrong with loving the one that already has shown you the love!!
I agree…! I’ve already sent my deposit in for another school… I guess I just waited so long that I just want some sort of answer from UNC.
I just called them today, and they said that the waitlist movement would happen later in May since the acceptance rate has been high(?). I’m just upset since May 1st has already passed…
ar was high? u mean a lot of ppl enrolled?
Pre covid only 50 some got off the waitlist. I feel like it may go back to similar numbers now.
Most likely. At first, I was confused about what that meant. I think a lot of people are enrolled, and we also need to factor in transfer students. Do waitlist students even have a chance? Is UNC just waiting for the enrolled students to drop after finding out about another decision from another school?
I agree, I was shocked to see only around 20-100 students getting accepted off the waitlist… I feel that this year, the chances are VERY slim.
hm. i think that that doesn’t necessarily mean a handful. so if u look at it in the last year or so there were j a handful of kids, around 20. but that was just in-state. there were around 300 out of state. plus my counselor said that unc enrollment has not seemed to be as high as it was in prior years when it was at its highest. i say if ur out of state there is a high chance and if ur in state then there’s still a chance. so all we can do is wait ig
i emailed them yesterday about when they they waitlist decisions will start and this is what they said:
“At this time, we are not making any waitlist offers. We will continue to monitor our class and, if spaces become available, we will then make an appropriate number of offers – and we expect this number will be limited.”
Does this mean they most likely won’t take anyone off the waitlist?
