I seriously wish this board was more active...I need people to commiserate with! I am waiting on pins and needles for my D's results. All her dance auditions are over and she has just one more MT audition this weekend. Dd received a very happy call from Rhonda Miller from the Pace BFA CD program last night...it is so nice to have the first response be a positive one. Dd REALLY loved the program and Ms. Miller's enthusiasm but it is definitely a departure from her classical training. This is going to be a VERY long month of waiting!!

It is so hard- never thought I would make it through the time. And not only do you have to wait for the results of the audition you have to wait for acceptance into the university too. I have heard really good things about the program at PACE. My DD had many qualifications for the school she chose, it had to have an actual campus was one - didn’t want to go to school in the middle of a city ie Point Park in Pittsburgh. It also could not be too far from home in Ohio. She also did not want the first thing they did at the audition to be that they weighed you. She felt that puts way too much pressure on you. She chose Slippery Rock University in Western, PA. She is absolutely thrilled with her choice. She will be getting a master’s in Adapted Physical Activity too from there.

Yes, the waiting is the hardest part, as the song goes, 1bighappyfamily. Good that you have good news as it goes on. Tell us about your dancer and your search process…those of us who have been through it before would like to hear about your journey, and will be delighted to share in your news. I hope you will post more as you hear from schools, and tell us about your process thus far.

Has anyone heard from commercial dance? Does anyone know when to expect to hear from the department?

We are waiting too and I feel your pain! It is agonizing, not knowing whether my daughter will get accepted into any. The worst scenario would be rejections from all.

If she gets more than one acceptance letter, we may then be scrambling to decide once the decisions finally come in.

While we are waiting, I thought it would be helpful to do more research on all the colleges she applied to and come up with a list of pros/cons based on the program, setting, housing, tuition, etc. Hence, I am searching the posts at CC for feedback.

We actually ruled out Pace because it is more commercial dance, which may attract others. My daughter is more interested in a intensive contemporary program that combines ballet and modern. Juilliard is now out of the mix too, as she was cut during the auditions. That was a huge disappointment, but now she is focused on four other programs with a Dance BFA program, plus a back up plan for a non-dance program.

quesera10~ Where else did she apply?

4 colleges with ballet/modern dance programs:
Fordham/Ailey
Dominican University of California/LINES
SUNY Purchase College
Boston Conservatory
1 non-dance option:
FIT - fashion merchandising

We still haven’t heard from any of these yet.

How about your daughter?

As an update to my last post, my D has heard back from two and got accepted into both Purchase and BoCo. Still waiting to hear from Fordham/Ailey and Dominican/Lines, which are her first choices.

Nonetheless, I am very happy that she has some guaranteed options. I am trying to prepare a list of pros/cons for each, but D doesn’t even want to talk about it until the other decisions come in. So we are still on pins and needles waiting until “all the cards are on the table”.

Anyone else with some good news?

@quesera10. Congratulations- these are fantastic acceptances! You may want to discuss your daughter calling admissions for a status update on her file so she will at least know if a decision has been reached in the event she wants to revisit anywhere. My DC didn’t want to discuss it until all offers were on the table too so i know what you mean. The month is going fast. Fordham began releasing RD a few weeks ago, at least as far as theatre and other programs. If you haven’t already, you may want to also the drama/theatre majors forum and musical theatre forum as your D schools will come there a lot too. Great choices for your D and good luck with the decision making process!
