Is anyone out there hoping for an acceptance from the waitlist? Does someone know what the chances are like this year? I know they’re always slim, but it’s nice to know I’m not the only one waiting. Good luck! Please post here if you hear anything! :)

Not sure about acceptance, but yes, waiting/hoping to hear from Barnard.

me! have you guys done anything to try and get off the waitlist?

EEK. I got a call a few hours ago offering me a place in the class of 2016 and i have NO idea if I’m going to take it. I have a week to decide…

@paintmuffin - WOW! Congratulations! Had you asked for financial aid? Do you have any idea if Barnard takes international students off the wait list? Btw, CONGRATS AGAIN! :D

Congrats paintmuffin!!! Let us know if you decide to enroll! Did you send in any supplementary materials?
I sent in really detailed letter outlining how much I want to be accepted, and that I will definitely attend if they give me a spot. Not sure if it will help. Good luck to the rest of you!

Ahh, paintmuffin, me too! My admissions reader called me about half an hour ago. I’m DEFINITELY going. I’m so happy right now, oh my god! I did a LOT to get off the list, actually, so it looks like it paid off.

I am so happy for you both!

Congrats lilylives! You pulled it off! Really lucky and deserving you are.

By the way, any stories on Internationals getting off the list?

Congratulations! I’m wait listed, so i want to know…did you do anything to get off of the wait list? I sent in a detailed letter of interest a while ago, do you think there’s anything else I can do? It’s definitely my top choice.

Mazel tov to those accepted!!! I hope we all eventually get in! What exactly did you send to Barnard, lilylives & paintmuffin? I sent them a SUPER long email–my college counselor said that it might have been too long–and I got the nicest response within 2 seconds from the director of admissions, but have yet to hear anything regarding admission since. Thanks and good luck, everybody!! Hope to see you all this fall!

I didn’t do anything besides expressing interest again. I don’t think I’m going to accept, though; I’ve really fallen in love with Scripps, where I’ve deposited, so y’all still on the waitlist have another shot! Good luck!!

I am just wondering but isn’t Scripps a bit less prestigious, less opportunity-ick-tick (<— watever the word is) than Barnard? Why did you pick it over the other? :D

Opportunistic? I don’t think Scripps is any less prestigious than Barnard. My close friend picked Scripps over Barnard for its biology program and the Claremont consortium. If anything, I think Scripps has a lot to offer that Barnard doesn’t. They’re just different. I was waitlisted at both :/

Good luck at Scripps, paintmuffin! I think its wonderful that you moved forward with your decision and have fallen in love with the college that liked you enough to admit you in the first place.* Don’t let anybody’s talk about prestige or opportunities get you down. Each college is different and presents its own set of opportunities.

To all other waitlisted students: Last year Barnard was over-enrolled, so I think this year they erred on the side of caution and over-projected yield. I think that is one reason that this year was by far the most selective ever. I think that many of the students waitlisted this year probably would have made the cut and been admitted in past years… so it was probably a tough choice for the ad com. In other words, if they are calling you now, they probably liked you all along, but just didn’t know if they would have space.

I would love to go to Barnard! I reiterated the fact that I am interest yesterday, by sending another e-mail to my admissions counselor. Is there a reason why some people are notified about the wait list earlier than others?

From what I understand, they let just enough people off the waitlist to fill their class. They let five people off, so I guess they were under-enrolled by five. There are women in the class of 2016 who will defer and some will get taken off the waitlists at other schools and go there instead, so spots will open up on a case-by-case basis now that they’ve filled their class.

I know Barnard is a better name-brand and not-insignificantly more selective than Scripps, but I want to major in math, and I liked the 5C departments/professors a LOT. At Barnard/Columbia it seemed like I would not have as many opportunities to get to know my professors and work with them, and I doubt there is a math course at Columbia any more challenging or “prestigious” than its equivalent at Harvey Mudd. Though I’ve always dreamed of living in NYC, the city can wait; I’ll just take a few years to catch some rays!

I was wait listed as well, Barnard is definitely my first choice. Does anyone know how many people they are planning to take off the wait list? And congrats, paintmuffin, Scripps is so great, I considered depositing there as well!

paintmuffin/ lilylives: what did you do to re-express your interest in barnard? and how do you know they took five people off the list? thanks!
