I was waitlisted at Boston University. I really, really want to go there, but my mom won't let me loose a $600 deposit at my other school, DePaul. Is there anyway to find out before May 1? Can I call the admissions office and ask if there's anything I can do? Or is there no hope and it's time to hang up the towel?

BU most likely will not take anyone off the waitlist until after May 1, but this year could be different if less people should decline earlier on. You may want to wait until the last day to send in your deposit to Depaul and also accept the waitlist from BU. If you should get off the BU waitlist, 1) your mother may change her mind and lose the $600 deposit, 2) you could start working part time to save up $600 to give your mom.

Thanks! I was thinking of calling the admissions office and asking how many people are on the waitlist. Is that out of line?

Wait for a week or so. I would write to your regional rep, a letter of interest, then ask how many people are on the waitlist. In the letter you could also ask how you stack up relative to other applicants. Let the rep know how much you want to go to BU, don’t whine.

Ok. That sounds like a good idea, thanks for the help.
