Waitlist = almost rejection?

So desperate that I am wait listed by Mount Holyoke...
Does anyone know usually how many girls will be accpeted from the waitlist every year?
Do I still have a chance to get any FA if I am fortunate enough to be accepted?

I'm not sure how many people are accepted off of the waitlist. You could call admissions and ask. You will definitely get financial aid if you're accepted though. MHC would never cheat someone out of financial aid just because she was accepted later.

It seems that they accepted a lot of applicants this year, so there is a very slim chance they would need to use the waitlist. I am waitlisted as well. (They waitlisted many people too).

I got waitlisted too!!! What should we do now???

Actually, they haven't accepted any more students than they did last year this year, and last year, they took 14 off the wait list. Good luck - it's not over yet!

hi guys i need help, from what i read of last year's waitlisted girls, some got in via spring entrance? when exactly does spring entrance term begin? on the same year or the succeeding year ie JAN of 2010? all the best to you all!

i was just happy i was considered for waitlist and not immediately rejected :)

Spring term begins January 2010. You would be starting a semester later, but a lot of people do it, so don't worry!

hi mtholyoke2010, thanks for the info. I think i’ll call in to see if there’s a priority list… it’d be a fairytale if i’d get in to a school like MHC

as for the rest of you, best of luck, and please update this thread so we can all keep our fingers crossed together!

This year they are not accepting any girls off the waiting list. Only women.

I’m also waitlisted but it seems like sending in more information is not necessary at this point. I don’t know what to do… :(

i know right, it’s all luck now. they told me “unless there’s NEW information, please do not send any more materials” etc. I kind of do have new info, and am kinda itching to send some new reccs but I don’t want to appear pushy. plus, i still haven’t gotten their reply form. what about you guys?

gosh this thread is so dead i can hear crickets

haha i agree jamapelle, I want to hear more about others, but I guess we are the only ones here…are you sending more materials to the office of admissions?

Who you are and why Mount Holyoke is THE college for you. Don’t repeat what was on your application but expand on it. Tell them why you’re a good match for the school. Don’t remain silent. It’s pretty certain if you’re silent they will be too. Nothing wrong with being a spring admit. You’ll get all the attention the fall admits do, including the Elfing the upperclassmen do for the Freshmen. The only downside is going through a Massachusetts winter before you’ve experienced a Massachusetts fall.

i asked if i could send a rec from my current employer (which i feel would reflect the sort of contributions i could give to mhc) but they said they really don’t need any more materials, but are leaving it to my judgment, i.e. it’s up to me if i’d like to send in sthg new.

what about you guys?

and janezra, i didnt really send them a letter, i just emailed the person in charge and told her briefly that i am still very much interested and i won’t mind being admitted in the Spring(honestly i’d rather be a spring admit, due to familial obligations. am an intl student, and flying back n forth within two months for my bro’s wedding would cost a bomb)

I think I will send a letter like Janera suggested, just to confirm that I will be there if they give me a spot. I feel discouraged because they seem to be saying that they don’t need MORE MATERIALS. ; (

yeah i guess you should. have you email them though? i have read somewhere in the forum all the waitlists might be active all through July!! i doubt i can keep the suspense in that long, it’s killing me as it is, just waiting for MHC’s reply. i REALLy wanna go :(

Through July??? I don’t know if I could keep up until July… I was kind of hoping that things would settle in at least by the second week of May or something like that. Yeah, I e-mailed and got almost an identical reply… Waiting is not the hard part, its the anxiety that comes from it. Oh well, Fingers crossed! (:

First of all - what everyone tells you is true - wherever you go you will have a great experience. Given that, put a deposit down on one of the colleges that accepted you and prepare to go there. Don’t wait around for July and hang your hopes on what-if.

In the meantime, write a formal letter (not an e-mail) to MHC Admissions telling them exactly why MHC is your first choice and what you can bring to MHC. Make it about you, not generic I’m-a-wonderful-student-and-everybody-loves-me. (The recc from your boss? Tell MHC what you brought to the work that made that job special.) Then forget it and get on with your life. There’s nothing more you can do.

If you’re ultimately offered MHC admission, congratulations! If not, you will go to the other college and, again, congratulations! You’ll make friends and have experiences of all kinds at either school. Get excited about wherever you go, and get involved.

PS: Yeah, I’m a parent. My daughter was waitlisted by MHC and got in. Me? I went to 3 different colleges (by transfer and junior year abroad) and loved all 3, even the one I transferred out of.

that explains your unchallenged wisdom then, Janezra! Which year did your daughter get in? Was it last year? Thanks for your advice I’ll make sure my strengths would be highlighted in the recc

sophiee, the list through July’s called the Summer Melt List, for those waitlistees who rejected offer. Yeah i don’t think I can wait that long either :frowning: (but i’d probably still do haha)
so have you send your deposit to other schools yet?
