Waitlist and transfer numbers?

i know it’s a bit early to tell, but i’m a bit jumpy after visitng barnard this weekend. an admissions counselor told me that every year they accept about 39, 40ish transfer students. i just read somewhere on this board that they have accepted 78 transfers this year! that makes me a bit anxious about the waitlist limbo that i am in…does that necessarily mean they will accepting less off the waitlist, or might it mean that not enough people are seeming to matriculate this year and are pulling more people off of both lists? just my two cents, but at this point i’m eager to know my waitlist decision.

That's odd. Surely, the information given to you at Barnard is probably correct, but collegeboard says this:

Transfer Students

* Total number of transfer students who applied: 461
* Total number of transfer students who were admitted: 134

I don't know from which year that is gathered, but it's odd that the person showing you around Barnard gave you such a SUBSTANTIALLY lower number. Maybe 40 typically enroll? That seems low, so I don't know.

This didn't help you at all, I know. My apologies.

no, the number 78 was posted by someone who has been accepted as a transfer this year. my guess is that barnard put that on the acceptance letter. i don't doubt it, though. i remember reading about barnard accepting too many applicants a year or two ago...sucks for us.
