Waitlist Chances?

Just got an email from Rice - waitlisted. :( 2240 SAT, 3.9 UW/4.5 W, decent (but not great) extracurricular. Honestly, I was actually expecting an outright rejection so I'm not too disappointed.

Anways, Rice says they received more than 15,125 applications for 935 spaces. I have no idea how many they admitted. Does anyone know what the waitlist stats have been in the past?

wondering the same thing!

Because Rice over-enrolled last year, I suspect the university was cautious sbout admitting too many students this year, and thus, it might actually pull a few more students from the waiting list if it comes short of its yield. However, I doubt Rice’s yield will fall short, and all of this is mere speculation.

I was waitlisted as well. Feels pretty bad to know I was close but not close enough. Oh well, here’s to hoping it all works out. Good luck to everyone else on the waitlist.

D was waitlisted a couple years ago. She is a soph at Rice and loves it. We ended up dropping by Rice Univ on our way to Tulane. She accepted Tulane and then found out she was accepted to Rice a few weeks later. It is definitely worth a try and it does not hurt to accept the waitlist. You never know.

From 2010-2011 Common Data Set:

Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list: 2521
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 1444
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 131
Is your waiting list ranked? No

As a current Rice freshman, I definitely agree that our class was over-enrolled, and the university can’t afford to do that again. I would not be surprised if they lean heavily on the waitlist this year so they can really control exactly how many they admit.

From my school, 6 (3 ED) kids have been admitted to Rice, 3 (me + 2 others) have been wait listed. Surprisingly, we live 30 min from the school.

I’m not counting on admission any time soon, but it does seem like the other 3 kids might decline rice for whatever reason. So I mean there will be people who go to other places, but not much to hope for.

I’d wager that they’ll take more off the waitlist this year than in previous years. As noted above, they can’t over-enroll again.

Waitlisted at Rice, Rejected at Northwestern
Do I have a chance for any ivys? Brown is my dream school…

ahh i hope this waitlist doesn’t foreshadow all bad news on the 29th! but good luck to all of you on the waitlist as well. i don’t see a point in not accepting a spot on the waitlist

So scared of 29th. Next week is gonna be nerve-wrecking!!1 gaghahghghghaghhh

zomggg thats weird I got waitlisted at Rice rejected at Northwestern too and Brown is one of my top choices… haha we’re long lost twins

I think we are triplets because I got waitlisted at rice, rejected at northwestern and am waiting to hear from brown (and other ivys) the 29th

Yay triplets! I hope we all end up in our top choices! Where else have you applied?

waited listed at rice, accepted U Chicago and Wash U. I think my Rice essay was my worst one. Sad, as Rice was my first choice. Two more schools to hear from this week. Freaking out because I do not know where I want to go and do not know how I am going to decide!

I also got waitlisted at Rice and rejected from Northwestern. Brown is also one of my top choices too.
