Waitlist chances

I didnt feel like searching this but its a quick question. I got waitlistsed at Pton, Columbia, Wharton, Brown, and DUke. First off I know the chances of getting off are extremely minimal at any of these places. BUt it happens of course. Do all people who get off the waitlist send in supplementary materials? Do I have any chance if I just let my application rest?

No I'm pretty sure it's not necessary to send in supplementary material. Here is what Stanford says: "We respectfully ask that you not submit any additional letters of recommendation from your counselor, teachers, alumni, friends, etc. We also respectfully ask that you not submit any additional materials such as writing samples, creative/performing arts credentials, photos, research papers, certificates, etc."

Of course, it varies with the school, but my point is that the final decision will be based on the application you submitted sometime last year, not on new letters of recommendations and such.

Obviously updates to your grades/awards/ECs are a different matter, but not everyone has new information to add.

It has been recommended by some schools and CCers that you write a letter to each school expressing your ongoing interest and why you still believe you are a good match for the school. However, it seems it is most important to indicate that you WILL definitely attend if offered a space as admissions will want to offer to those they know will accept at this late date. Obviously, you cannot say that to every school. If $$$ is not an issue you might indicate that there are no financial barriers to attending. Follow each school's guidelines - don't send supplemental materials if they specifically request that you do not. However, most seem to welcome updates that are significant including 3rd quarter grades, anything new - awards, honors, etc. You can contact the admissions officer for your region and attempt to gain further insight into how they use their waitlist.
