Hey everyone,

I've been waitlisted at Stanford but now I'm not sure whether to accept the offer to stay on because of financial reasons (long story). If I somehow were to get in (which is highly unlikely), would I be able to ask for an entrance deferral to take a gap year? Or is it mandatory that I enroll in the Class of '13?

Again, highly unlikely, but I'm also shocked that I even got waitlisted.

Thanks for your help!

I’m not sure if you can take a gap year or not, but if I were you I don’t think fin. aid will be that bad. If you’re sure you probably can’t handle it, then don’t go on the waitlist. There are probably other people who are dying to get accepted from the waitlist. However, if you may be able to come up with the money or get fin aid then go ahead and put your name on.

Also, what other colleges did you apply to?

Well, the financial aid is still on the fence since my bank needs to get back on me about a bunch of things. I think I’ll be able to get the money it’s just going to take FOREVER to get all the paperwork together (Germany is VERY bureaucratic).

Is there an advantage in turning in the waitlist form early?

I got in at Tufts, Wellesley, Penn, GWU, Claremont McKenna, and McGill, waitlisted at Scripps, and got rejected at NU and Brown. I’m most likely going to enroll at Tufts.
