My worry is a little different. D had a hard time deciding among the schools that admitted her. If one of the schools that offered her a place on their WL sends her an admissions letter, I am afraid it will send her into a decision making tizzy again. On the other hand, knowing my dear D, I doubt she would be willing to notify the WL schools and ask them to take her OFF the WL.

"Even HY and P have a limit of fin aid dollars. Most of these schools admit that when the aid dollars are gone they have to take full payers. Why is this deplorable? Should wealthy BMW dealerships give out free cars?"

Since they've already bent definitions of merit to admit a majority of students from the top 5% of the U.S. population income, why should they CHANGE when the waiting list comes around?

Waiting lists are often used to fill niches. If the top three quarterbacks turn the school down, they've got to admit (and recruit!) a fourth. Similar if they want to maintain a small but viable archaelogy department, or tiddlywinks team. And if someone on the waiting list can discover a new rich uncle.... (If you ran an admissions department, would you run it differently?)

californian -
enjoy the tizzy if and when it comes - the empty nest is too quiet of late! Remember, too that these kids are still growing - and a month or two of additional maturity can help make a better decision.

blankman/agoodfriend? Same person?
Are you double registered and cross posting?
Why are you doing that? I don't think thats smiled upon by the cc owners.

Add Bates. A friend received the good news this morning.

I just got into Duke yesterday off the waitlist. They seem to have taken quite a few off. On the Duke board, rumor is of probably less than 40% yield compared to a predicted 46%. I bet the lax scandal and cross acceptances were the root of the difference.

I'm interested to see how cross acceptances affect things. Many at my school were waitlisted.

Reported on a different thread - someone received a phone call from Pomona tonight.

Word on the UChicago board is that waitlist admissions will likely be low, and will not begin for another week or two.

Add Ursinus

James Madison University

It's showtime

dudedad, this is not the same as taking kids off the WL, though--the schools listed here are taking additional applications--quite a different situation as taking those who have already applied and were waitlisted.

Looks like Harvey Mudd is accepting off the waitlist now.

University of Chicago too.

Although the Bard class of 2010 is technically full, they will begin looking at waitlisted students on May 18th or 19th, or so the head of admisssions told me.

According to students on the Caltech board, the started making calls to waitlisted students this afternoon.

Someone on the Wesleyan board reported being accepted on Friday.

Three on Pomona board reporting acceptance from wait list (Thursday and Friday).

Interesting who's taking applications still - some well known schools.

Northwestern for transfers.

Texas Tech, Rochester Institute for anyone...

Boston University is moving to its wait list as well.

My D's friend got a letter from Cornell asking if she had not already made plans for the fall to submit an application now to be considered forfall admission. I wonder if they even have a waitlist?
