Okay... so I know people who are finding out about waitlists from other schools now. I know that Georgetown says "before May 15th"... but it looks like people have heard as early as the 10th with phone calls from the admissions office to "gauge interest". If I don't get a phone call in the next two weeks, does it mean I'm definitely not getting in?

This is all so stressful. I want this over with so I can get excited about my second choice.

I never received a phone call to gauge interest and was placed on the so called "extended" waitlist. However, a friend who was accepted off the regular waitlist last year did receive a phone call gauging interest and was called back the next day or so with an acceptance.

After deferred EA and now waitlisted with stats that I felt should've gotten me in, I'm done with Georgetown, especially after yesterday's events. I wasn't planning on going anyway, but I got into Duke off the waitlist yesterday to seal the deal.

The waitlist wasn't just for people with lower stats like stated earlier.

Gtown deferred and waitlisted three of us from my school. Definately not happy about that considering we got into harder/better schools. I guess this is what happens when a college doesn't have a great relationship with a high school (we haven't had anyone apply with decent stats in years, although several students go to ivies/top lac a year).

I need some advice... G-town was my #1 school from the start and I was waitlisted at MSB... I sent a personal letter letting them know they're still my first choice. I just found out yesterday (and was beyond shocked) that I'm salutatorian of my grade... which i am hoping can be somewhat helpful with helping me get in at this point. what do you think the best way to go about telling them would be? I could call them myself, ask my headmaster to call (he already called Georgetown on my behalf), ask my college advisor to call, write a letter... what do you think? thanks :) I love Georgetown so much ahhh... oh and GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! I seriously hope we all get in!

i suggest you do most of it on your own, rather than asking the headmaster and advisor, because it shows more initiative. congrats on being salutarian... what are your other stats? good luck!!

gcards, did you apply to the College, SFS, MSB, or NHS?

I read that article posted earlier from the Georgetown Hoya entitled "Few Likely to Be Taken Off Waitlist". The article contradicts itself! At one point, an admissions officer says, "the percentage of accepted students who choose to matriculate at Georgetown will be in the 47-50 percent range, roughly the same percentage as last year." Then later, she says, "few if any students will be taken off Georgetowns waitlist this year."

According to the chart they provided with the waitlist letter, about 11% were accepted off the waitlist last year to the SFS. That's hardly "few if any".

The school accepted 3300 students this year in order to fill nearly 1600 places. If I am doing my math correctly, which I think I may, a 50 percent matriculation rate would actually be more than they needed to fill the class.
Last year they had a considerably less number of applications and accepted less students. Therefore if they still needed to fill the 1600 places and only 50 percent of say 2800 students matriculated, then they would have had a few hundred places open. That is why it is different...

Btw... the 2800 was a made up number, but I am sure that they accepted less last year due to the applicant pool being smaller.

Good Luck on getting off the waitlist because I look forward to seeing you all next fall!!

Haha Gcards sounds a little bitter. I think most ppl who apply feel that they're stats should get them in. Dont hate on Gtown just because they didnt want you. It happens to people all the time. And, Duke has about the same acceptance rate, if not a little higher. Don't be sad though I think you might have fun, maybe just not as much fun as if you'd gotten into Gtown.

I applied to MSB. I'm actually not really bitter. I don't really care (Duke was my number one choice anyway). I just don't understand why no one from my school got in. Just a little school pride against a Jesuit high school that sends loads to Georgetown each year. I would've picked USC and Rice over Gtown anyway (I love the area Gtown is in, I just didn't like the campus, especially after coming from the open Duke campus.)

For the people who got in off the waitlist last year, what time of day did Georgetown call? Did they leave messages? What if you're not there to pick up the phone... do they just keep going down the list?

Is anyone else starting to get really nervous? My headmaster called last week, and the guy in charge of NY admissions said there were no spots opening up and that the list just wasn't moving... which is very disconcerting. I hope that will change, I really do...

I'm really nervous....overall, this year has been crappy for admissions (record apps for practically everyone) and if this turns out to be the one and only year when NOONE gets admitted, that's depressing..... so far I've sent several updates, my IB EE and History IA, and had my counselor write an extra rec....

I've sent in a letter restating my interest in attending, a letter from my principal, and a letter from my state senator. This is in addition to the AP scores and multiple recommendations I sent following being deferred in December.

ilovedogs, that's really scary about no spots opening up! Do you know if that's specifically for the College or for all the schools? Yes... the clock is ticking fellow waitlistees. Where have you all sent in your deposits? I'm going to Rice if Georgetown doesn't come through.

eww for the NY situation... did the NY rep say this before people actually SENT their deposits, meaning before may 1. otherwise, it could be inaccurate. although georgetown is amazing, there must be people turning them down... after all, students applied to many many schools this year.

at this point, theres honestly not very much we can do. they will prob be making decisions about the waitlistees very soon. all we can do is hope that our admission reps of our respective states say good things. otherwise, yes, chances are quite bleak. an article i read said "few likely to be taken off waitlist" from late april. gets chills
