Waitlist Question

Hey everyone,

I'm kinda confused about the whole waitlist thing. It would be great if any one could answer any of the following questions:

1) If we waitlist a class, does the system count the number of units of that waitlist class to how many we are registering for? (Since we can only register for 19.5 units...)

2) How long should we wait on a waitlisted class before opting out of it? Should we still try to attend class and talk to the professors and everything to try to add?

3) If UCSD is holding spaces for freshmen by not opening spots for classes, do the people on the waitlist have priority over the freshmen trying to add classes?

2) Definitely attend the class the first week because many people will go to the first lecture and then decide to drop it, freeing up more spots. Do not talk to the professor. They have essentially no control over the system, it’s all done via WebReg (unlike in the past when they could manually add you into the class). More than likely the prof will tell you to just hang out on the waitlist and see what happens.

3) I am assuming on this one… no. The whole purpose of saving the spots is that they are saving them FOR freshmen, not for waitlisted upperclassmen.
