greenfield,
I should’ve said this earlier:

despite the 19.5-unit cap now, starting September 20 (first day of quarter) you’re allowed to waitlist more classes. so while you currently can only waitlist/register for 4 classes, by the time quarter begins you can reg/waitlist for more classes. (about 10% drop the class, so #1, #2, or #3 on a waitlist for a discussion of size 30 is good). do know that even though you are free to waitlist more classes, your 19.5 cap has become a 22-unit cap. so you only have room to waitlist 1 class if you have 4 already (2 if you have 3, and so on).

Then, you would do exactly what you said you wanted to do (sitting in on a discussion) but instead of adding the class when spots open up, do that by waitlisting beforehand so when spots open up, you automatically get taken in.

btw, yes, you have 2 weeks to add/drop classes if 5 becomes too much or w/e.

so on September 20, you should quickly log onto TritonLink and waitlist (if chances are good), then sit in on lectures/discussions until you hear back from the department regarding your status.

best of luck getting your classes! it’s ok, I think all of our schedules suffer a bit as freshmen :P

EDIT: also, even if your discussion ends up being at a poor time or w/e, you can always attend other discussions. I heard TAs rarely take attendance or even care. but if one discussion is far better than others, it might get too crowded and they’ll have to eject you (haha). and of course sometimes profs give quizzes during the corresponding section; you better attend your own section in that case.

I also feel like more ECE 15 sections should open up, so look out for that.
