"How many students have enrolled so far?"
Sorry, we are not currently releasing that information. There are times in the process when we release such information, and then there are times when we wait and see. We are currently in a wait and see period. Releasing our current enrollment numbers would just lead to constant speculation and assumptions about what such numbers mean. As the staff deliberates about the wait list, we are also doing a number of other tasks that are directly related to the enrollment number. Once we finalize our decisions about what we will do with the wait list, then we will also feel comfortable releasing information about enrollment. This may frustrate some of you, but unfortunately it is the way we work. We release numbers and stats when we are 100% confident in the information and that such information will not lead to incorrect assumptions and constant speculation.

When do Transfer students receive their decision?
Transfer students will receive their decisions by the end of May.

Is it too late to send an update to Hopkins?
We requested that all wait list students send updates by May 1. You may still send updates but we can not guarantee the information will be processed. Wait list discussions are currently on-going so the likelihood is slim that additional information sent after May 1 will be considered. You can email gotojhu@jhu.edu with any updates.

"Sources"
I am going to try to avoid a rant based on PalmBeach33480s posts, but I do want to clear one thing up and it relates to my answer to question #1 in this post.

I am an official source of the Hopkins Admissions Office. Believe what I write or don't, it is your choice. The reason I began posting on CC is because I was told of the massive amount of misinformation on the boards about Hopkins. I felt it was important to correct this information, while also being forthright with details about the on-goings in the Admissions Office. My role is to inform while also help fill the gaps so you all refrain from incorrect assumptions and ridiculous speculation.

A lot goes into the Admissions process and there are times when information is not released for many factors. My stating previously that "The numbers look good" should only be read as we are not drastically under-enrolled. I have and will continue to be as forthright with information as I can be. You choose what to believe.

When someone posts on CC other than me with "inside information," whether they be a current Hopkins student or someone else, the information may or may not be credible. What I can assure you though is that such information is not coming directly from the source - which for all intent and purpose is the weekly Admissions Counseling staff meetings that my colleagues and I have with the Director of Admissions. Such inside information is based on hearsay, conjecture, or grapevine discussions and once again you have the choice to believe it or not.

Sorry, didnt want to go into a rant but I felt it was important I say something. I have nothing against PalmBeach33480s posts nor do I even have a sense of his/her sources. I just want all of you reading these threads to understand the difference between a post I make and a post someone else makes.

Admissions Daniel...you did an excellent job no doubt, explaining yourself as a credible and 1st degree source of admissions information, but what I saw was waitlist students very hungry for information about the waitlist..and when there was no real response, i offered my source--perhaps second degree, but important nonetheless, and what they heard and heard said about this year's incoming class stats/yield. I am a "3rd" degree source, yes, I admit, so I can only offer what I've heard..and have never claimed to be the "official" answer

"Although we have currently met our enrollment target for next year, in the event that space becomes available, we will admit students from a small, extended wait list. The Admissions Committee would like to offer you a place on that wait list. You will be notified of our final decision no later than July 31."

guess this means its probably game over. They over enrolled or hit the enrollment right on the mark or they used very few people from the waitlist and have a small extended waitlist for the next TWO MONTHS. I just want to give up and relieve my mind of this tension but then I think about what can happen if I am miraculously admitted.

According to the Columbia board, they are doing the same exact thing (fully enrolled but will keep a tiny waitlist). Sorry Arsh. I do think Chapel Hill is an excellent school however.

I would just like to thank JHU for not informing those not on the special wait list about the situation. Honestly, it is very possible that I would not have gone if I were accepted -- but I think everyone should be told! It's only POLITE.

I second Jack Bauer. Goodbye JHU... hello NYU-Stern.

theonlyone: the admission representative promised that he would provide an updated information for waitlisted students by may 31st, which clearly did not happen.

Daniel just got back from a well-deserved vacation...I'm sure he'll be back to the boards shortly.

In the mean time, everyone on the waitlist will be receiving notification of their status either by email or in the mail very shortly, if they haven't already.

AdmissionsDaniel has been on vacation - thanks JHU_michelle. I apologize for not updating sooner, but I do think I deserve a bit of slack to go on vacation. Wow, how quickly the world of CC will turn on you. Some of you all should look up the word "patience"

Yes, we did not release on May 31 - but the reason was for the staff to be absolutely confident in the decisions we did release.

Here is an excerpt:
Update For Wait List Students
"This past Friday (June 2) the Counseling Team finalized our work with the wait list. Though a few days later than anticipated, we needed to make sure we were comfortable and confident with these final decisions. On Friday we mailed decision letters to all applicants who informed us they wanted to remain on the wait list.

The enrolled class of 2010, as it stands currently, is right where we want it to be. We have covered our enrollment target of 1160 freshmen and have just about an additional 100 students who have enrolled -- more than covering any "summer melt" we may experience. What all that pretty much means is that we successfully made our class.

With that in mind, the vast majority of letters mailed on Friday will notify students that since we have met our enrollment targets we are releasing them from our wait list. A small group of students (a little over 100) will receive a different letter (and email) offering them a place on our small, extended summer wait list. Those selected to be on the summer wait list are also notified that we have met our enrollment targets and the reason for this extended wait list is in the event space becomes available.

For those accepting a place on this extended wait list it is important to note that chances for admission are slim and only will occur in the rare case that more spaces become available than the number we are currently over-enrolled. This scenario resembles what we decided to do with our wait list last year, and no students were admitted from this smaller, extended wait list then. Final decisions about the extended summer wait list will be released by July 31."

alright, sorry about the earlier post. in any case, since i haven't received any e-mail from JHU yet, I guess that's it... plus, i've already poured in thousands of dollars of deposit to Stern, so July 31 acceptance is not gonna help me anyway.

farewell hopkins. good luck to the JHU class of 2010!
(this time, no sarcasm intended)
