Waitlist

American is one of my top schools, and here I find myself on the waitlist. Poor GPA (3.4), good SATs (2230), good essay and, I think, good ECs (internship at the state capital, student representative to my school district’s board of directors, won a playwriting contest and had my play performed in Seattle and published in an anthology).
What are my chances on the waitlist? American is one of top two schools, and if I didn’t get into this one, the other seems very unlikely.

i had a similar thing happen to me (my sats were a little lower, but basically the same ‘i probably should have been accepted’ thing). american’s not really one of my top schools, more like a at safety that i got waitlisted, so i’m not gonna take any more action besides responding to the waitlist. I’d recommend that you write a letter of interest and just let them know that you’re really serious about american and have your sights set on it. once they know you’re serious and not using it as a safety school (you’re statistically overqualified- they probably didn’t take you seriously) then they’ll be more likely to take you off the waitlist
