Waitlist

My son was wait listed by Duke so he committed to Carolina. Somehow he forgot to go to respond to them about whether he wanted to be on the list or not.
Now he gets this:
Greetings from Duke! As you know, about a month ago we offered you a place on Duke’s waiting list, and our records indicate that you have not yet responded to that offer. While you have until May 1 to decide whether or not you’d like to be considered for admission from the waiting list, we encourage you to let us know as soon as possible if you are still interested in attending Duke. In the past we have been able to make admissions offers to students on our waiting list before May 1, and we would very much like to consider you among that group.

He had moved on. Now what to do. Is this a sign that they want him or is it just another big chance that those disappointment wounds will get opened up again?
Thoughts anybody?

Honestly, I wouldn’t read too much into it. The waitlist is always a matter of luck and numbers and changes from year to year, but if he’s moved on and happy with plans made at UNC, then just ifnore He can always be on the WL, and if they call him, great. If they don’t, he’s got plans at UNC already that are set and appealing. But being on the WL (v. off) shouldn’t really have any expectations attached to it… slim, slim chances.

It is probably just a reminder to see if he wanted to accept his spot on the waitlist, it doesn’t mean much to be honest

Especially since he has moved on, I think it would be best if he checked off “No” and went with Carolina as you said.
